Oh, yes, I'm sure many will read this and say, "ME TOO!" I'll bet that, for every person who has no fear of snakes, there are 100 that do. I think man's fear of snakes goes back to the Garden of Eden! Good job of tracing your fear from childhood on

Thank you
Comment from Gloria ....
This is very well done, author. Sometimes a fear of something is mistaken as a phobia which of course is not correct. A phobia is something much beyond an aversion or fear.
The snakes in Vietnam sound absolutely terrifying. Yikes!
Excellent free verse and you've shown your readers the terror of phobia most clearly.
Best luck in the booth. :)

In stanza one the snake was soaking up the rays, enjoying the sun. Appears that rattler was poised to strike, if it did not become dinner first. From experience, rattlers taste a lot like chicken. Seems you have a definite phobia of them going on though. Well crafted poem. Should make a good entry for this contest.

Hi there,
this phobia seems to be quite a common one, but it doesn't make it any less important to the one suffering it. I am not a keen snake lover and cannot get my head around someone keeping one as a pet.
They say to face your phobia but what is said is easy to say but not to do.
Good luck, and I hope you never encounter another one.

I have had so many say, "just face your phobia!" I confess I will take this one to my grave. Perhaps in my next life, I will endure the travails of facing this nemesis.

"My Snake Phobia", is an extremely well-written and somewhat hair-raising piece. This talented poet's work was interesting to both read and review. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Hey phobic one ... your fear offers you a spiritual chance to venture into yourself ... we come hear a blank tape receptive to whatever we record ...
our subconscious is shaped by what is recored ... then we have to deal with impromptu visitations form our subconscious ... to face our fears is our chance to overcome

I enjoyed your poem about being afraid of snakes. Your free
verse flows very well from one sentence to the next. Your images are
very good. I can just see the snake slithering on the porch.

Apparently our country is home to the top seven most venomous snakes in the world, but I've only encountered only one in the wild. I'm sorry you're bothered by them. Beautifully written my friend, thank you for sharing, blessings Roy
