I enjoy the different settings for which you have highlighted this snake phobia. You are not alone in your fear - in fact evidence suggests that there is a primal part of our brains designed to recognize and respond negatively in the presence of slithering motion. That being said, in your first stanza, I think that you may have meant " a snake slithered" instead of "slivered"

If this is based on a true story, I don't know how you survived Vietnam. Those snakes would scare the bejeebers out of a person without a snake phobia. Hope you don't see one in real life anytime soon.
