It's a nice dream...but it's gone forever. Elected officials are interested in nothing but angling to get into positions where they can write legislation and steer it; that's where the money is. They charge millions for legislation, and the big, international corporations dole it out to get what they want. Positions like president, speaker of the house, senate majority leader; they rake in millions and millions of dollars from corporations, foreign states, all kinds of special interest groups, to influence policy and legislation. That's why they fight like cats and dogs over it. They've been selling out the country for decades for personal gain. All of them. estory

You are correct in every aspect, but we can give up hope!

You've written an excellent nonet for the contest.
Unfortunately, beneath your words is the reality that
politicians don't care and don't listen, whether on the left
or right. It used to be that the middle would determine
things with compromise. Now neither side hears common sense.
Governments often fall and decay from within.
Hopefully, there is a way forward.
Best wishes.

This deserves six-stars. Sorry, I don't have them. You are so right and it is too bad we couldn't put this poem on the front page of The New York Times, or, The Washington Post. Maybe you should send it round to all the Media that is feeding this frenzy. Great picture! Good luck in the contest, I can see this as a winner.

Comment from David R. Davis
Thank you for your words and your thoughts. Very well written. I believe no matter which political leaning we may individually hold, we are all tired of the mess of this country. Party before country is no way to run a nation. How refreshing would be calm, polite and considerate dialogue. Again thanks, go well.

Good job on this nonet, author. The importance of the subject matter goes without saying. The thoughts are inspiring and appear as a call to arms as it were. Good job and good luck in the contest. :)

This is a strong nonet and a good political commentary piece. A poem with a strong message is always a more rewarding read in my mind. I especially liked the inclusion of, "we the people."

Nickie, thank you! It truly must go back to we the people!
Comment from Janet Foor
I agree with you 100% however, I don't see it happening any time soon or maybe not ever. Everyone has their own agenda and, we the people, are not it.
Excellent nonet.

Janet, We must continue to believe that the tides can turn. or the alternative is horrible.

Hear, hear. The endless bickering and insults must reflect so badly across the country and indeed the world.
I believe that trump, unknowingly, will be the catalyst when he is finally gone, that will bring America together. It is time to unite and work together again.
I pray for America.
Cheers, judester

Judester, we all must pray for America and any leadership that braves the halls of DC going forward.
