How badly I felt, dearest friend, reading this ottava rima of yours and could I not feel on my skin now those days gone with every single emotion, every door banged, every semi-open book left in the studio waiting its turn to be read completely. Where are those students' worried anxious glances for their literary tests and great crying satisfation for an outstanding, good mark? All a "good" teacher's life is in this nostalgic epiphany "There's no class, no library books to return." Here once home a retired teacher has to be more creative than ever otherwise he/she is lost within his memorial epiphanies. We travel on parallel railways. Blessings Yvette! Tony

Oh, Tony, thank you so very much for those awesome stars -- this one was certainly written on a day when those 'feelings' were stronger than another day! ;) :) LOL! And I do find myself being 'creative'! ;) Yvette

The same think happened to me. Just retired I found immediately a part time job (80 hours teaching) and every year the headmaster calls me back. This means we have sowed well in the past. In our case it's not the money but the contact of being with pupils or students that gives new creative life to we "getting old" people. I love these moments here as if I was speaking to you directly Yvette, believe me because there is cultural understanding creativity. I will read all what I can and review. I want to tell you that in my portfolio is "Genocide" which "teachers" have already explored I would like your opinion , please! Yvette, please tell me if you want me to read first one of yours before other ones!

Congratulations on your well-deserved win. You describe so well,
the thoughts of many who now experience the "empty nest".
It's never really empty when the memories still live on.
Well done.

Thanx so much, ma'am, for such a wonderful review and for those bright stars -- they mean a lot coming from you! ;) Seems the contest came up on a day when I was feeling the weight of this empty house and this is whatcha get.... so, thanx for the encouragement and the reassurance that writing from the heart doesn't always have to be hearts and flowers to be appreciated!! ;) :) Take care up there, ma'am, and have a great week ahead! ;) Yvette

I enjoyed reading your poem very much and deservedly it was the contest winner. You captured the busy-ness of family life very well; now the empty nest allows for different ways to spend time while reminiscing. The picture and colouring are appealing. Your last line indeed captures the living and the loving.

Hi there,
this reminds me of the day my moved out of the family home after we had all grown up and moved away. Going back to help her pack and looking around for the last time was so sad. So many good and not so good memories still lingered there.
I miss the old place.
I loved this.

I think this is a good entry for the Ottava Rima contest.
Your rhyming is spot on and the verse reads smoothly. The artwork tells the story of the family home.
Well done and good luck to you with the contest.

Yes, the memories do linger. Even if you paint over all the fingerprints they left when they jumped up to reach over the top of the door, you still know they are there and probably still would be if the real estate agent hadn't made it clear that they would not be the least bit sentimental to the next owner. You can only hope that the next family will love there. This one really grabbed me by the heart!

Good artwork choice. Beautifully written reflection about the family when they were younger. Well thought out. Creatively written. Good lyrical flow of rhythm and rhymes. Nicely done. Excellent work :)

So poignant almost melancholy. Really well written. I feel the emotion of your words. I know this feeling too well, but now 3 of my kids moved close and SoI am always watching the grandkids. Good luck in the contest, Laura

Oh yes indeed dear Yvette,
It is only the empty spaces that remain, once so full and so fully,
busy, occupied and sometimes even tresspassed, but never the
echoes of their being and raised there, with heart, joy, laughter,
compassion and protection when needed, and especially the LOVE...
and the ever abiding comfort, gratitude and forever proud affirattion
'yes, once a family lived and loved here', but now though some
may live elsewere, all still remember and cherish living and loving
where they all once were! Amen! Beautifully penned nostalgia
on the 'empty nest' that often is more feared than ought ever be.
Thanks for sharing dear (:;) Ronni

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Ronni -- I'd never written one of these and I always just go with what's in my heart at the time...... and I had just finished cleaning out the closet in one of the boys' old rooms upstairs - so much 'stuff' that the memories just come flying back at you, ya know?!! ;) :) Thanx for your review and lovely comments, my lady, and you have a wonderful weekend! ;) Yvette
