I'm in agreement with you - there's something about being "put aside" - "hemmed in by snow so we can't get around" - We once lived at the top of a hill, a long sloping road beside us. There were wonderful snow days when there was no school - no going to work - nothing. It was like a God-given holiday. The kids sledded down that hill - we had hot chocolate and made crepes for breakfast. A grand time.
Somehow it takes such an event for us to "slow down."
Good job.

This is a nice poem about winter. I enjoyed your flow and rhyming pattern. I don't think it is appropriate for the contest that you entered though. I don't think free verse is allowed to rhyme.

Your poem is well-written, vividly descriptive, and thought-provoking.
Yes, why does it take something drastic to get our attention and make us pull together?!

Snow days are great except when they're unexpected and parents have to find a babysitter so they can go to work! But, I remember snow days when I was a kid. We couldn't go to school but we could sled ride all day with all of our friends!
And yes it would nice if we could get people together and help each other without having to have a disaster push us to it!

Yes, I remember the Blizzard of 1977 in Buffalo. We moved there from Florida shortly thereafter. People really know how to band together in upstate New York, at least where we lived. They certainly share their provisions.
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the contest,
Sally xo

Thank you so much for your review and great rating. Buffalo? I think that is the snow capital of the world. They get lots and lots of snow.

What a beautiful snowy picture to match your poem!

"No school tomorrow, the kids would play." What wonderful days they were!!

I truly enjoyed the read!

Best of luck with the Free Verse Poem Contest contest.

This work has reached the exceptional level

It often does take the worst events or catastrophes to bring out the best in people. If only we could rally around one another without the pain and sorrow. Snow days do give us a chance to breathe and refresh ourselves. In that case, let it snow...

You must be the only person thinking such things, but the camaraderie and the coming together of a community to help each other is magical, I am all for that. Your poem is well rhymed and I enjoyed the journey, love Dolly x

I am laughing at your first comment. So I take it you do not live in the snow belt? Thank you so much for your pleasant review and high rating. It has been my pleasure reading your review.

We hardly got any snow last year and this year. I don't work. But I too wish it would snow. One big snowstorm; to sit in my chair ad watch it. I like the line about to awaken and feel alive. This is an excellent poem.

It's true that certain events sometimes have the effect of bringing people together, but, although that applies to 9/11, your reference to it, unintentionally I'm sure, seems to equate that unparalleled tragedy with the one in 1978 (over 3,000 lives lost vs. 70) while you are wishing for snow.

Hmmm, very good point. No, I did not think about lives lost back in '78. My thoughts we more on loved ones coming together for a day or so unexpectedly and able to forget about the world and just enjoy life. Thank you for your thorough review and good rating, I truly appreciate it. Man, your comment really has me thinking now. LOL. I think your review is the best of all of them now. Thanks again.
