What a horror story! Roaches falling on you from the ceiling, I think I would have screamed the place down. It's a shame when people take advantage of your naivety, but at least you got your deposit back. I loved your reference to children thinking they were an immaculate conception. Even at my age, anyone I've dated since my husband passed is regarded as a sexual pariah by my son, sometimes with hilarious results! I look forward to reading on.

I'd never seen roaches over a half inch long before. I did a some screaming. I don't know how those college girls had survived living with all those nasty creatures. They were almost like small birds.

I sure hope that your apartment was nice. After goring through roaches and no coffee to drink, you sure did deserve a nice place to rent. When a person is young, there are always challenges.

What a horror story-- a drunk LOL roach falling on your head. And then renting sight unseen (which I'm about to do)
very risky. Can't wait to read further.

I've missed you for a couple of days. So nice to seeing you. I love your reviews because we do see to have a lot in common. Yep, the roaches was a bad spot in our lives but worth chuckling over in retorspect. Thanks for the review.

I can't wait to see what the 'sight unseen' apartment looked like. I know when I was very young my parents moved to a new town it must have been about 1955 or 56. Dad has just graduate from college, used the GI bill and got a job in this town. Finding a place to live was a horrible experience. Again, thank you for sharing.

Good God! Roaches, roaches everywhere! I can't imagine the horror of having them run around and then fall on you from the ceiling!
I can relate to the car with no A/C. The car I had when I married had no A/C and we took a trip to Kansas in a massive heat wave. Torture.
I enjoyed reading your story!

Thank your for the review and comments. Yes, that was a horror story. I was too much to risk spending another night there even though we probably did a pretty good job of killing most of them. Love you comments,

This is written very well, Beth! It is interesting to read and some of the images, such as the cockroaches, gave me the willies. Are you writing this for your husband, because you say 'you' here and there. Just wondering!
Keep up the lovely bio. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Thank you so much Drew. I appreciate wonderful review and comments. Yes, My husband passed away about two and half years ago. I still talk to him though. I'm writing this for my children but I writing it like I am reminding him of what our life was like. I want them to know us as we were.

A very interesting read - writing style is clear and concise and projects the reader into the moment as if events are actually unfolding before the readers' eyes [-

You certainly had a hard time there at the start of your life together, Beth. Things were tough in the late 50's. Jim couldn't find work in Illinois so we moved across the country to Nevada where one of his six brothers had a government job. He found work there. I am enjoying your story. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. It was tough but we were young. It was all part of the adventure. It didn't seem to bother me back then. I just took it one day at a time.s

You have an eagle eye for reviewing. I don't understand when I type the background, It's all there and later it disappears. I'm so glad you enjoying my story. Thanks so much.

What a horrible greeting by roaches at your first house. I agree she should have compensated doe he extinction cost. Finding a nice home after just getting married is a real challenge. This is well written, marvelous and detailed descriptions that keep the readers attention from beginning to end. I do hope things improve as time passes. I look forward to reading the next chapter. I love you writing style and presentation of this delightful story.
