Hello there, my friend. What a little cutie pie he was. That's such a sad story, awe.... it makes me want to cry, poor little Boobalee. It's a traumatizing experience to have a pet die when they're like family. All that said, it is a great entry for the quiet contest. Good luck. ~Kerry

This poem really teared me up. I lost my beloved Snickers almost two years ago. She was 18 and had a stroke, and we had her put to sleep. I still cry almost every day. The first cat I ever owned Jingles died in 2016. He was extremely old for a cat 23! I got him for Christmas as a teenager, but he stayed with my parents after I was married. When he was dying, my mother called me asking me about the noises he was making. I could hear his wailing over the phone, and his suffering still haunts me to this day. Your words describe those last moments so vividly. I am sorry that you went through that as well. I have two new kitties, but I'll never forget my first two as long as I live. They are family members for sure!

    Ciao !

The only downfall in having pets is that sadly most of the time we have to put them to sleep to stop their sufferings may it be due to weak kidneys or cancer ..?
23 is definitely an exceptional age for a cat..my oldest reached 19 and ½?it must have been excruciating to hear Jingles? wailing ?

They are definitely family members?I have always been there for my cats till the end.

I cut off some fur and a couple of whiskers to keep and in return I place a big lock of my hair between their paws ..I also bury a favourite toy of theirs with them too.

Thank you for the six star vote..as soon as I read the contest my Boobalee came to mind ?his death was so unexpected after the vet reassured me he was well only the day before ...the vet wanted to do an autopsy but I said no.

Thank you for sharing your pet stories with me..

    Ciao!

Poets have their own settled instincts, and I hesitate to say anything to you. Yet, for what it is worth, I risk sharing my perception (which may not be yours):

Your pic is precious and your theme is heart-felt.

However, "screams" and "wails" are used to describe human misery, but fail to apply to cats. I've had cats and one of my cats died in my arms, so I can safely say that suitable feline words need be used here.

Also, the grouping of lines is helter-skelter. Easy to fix this.

Your final line is a gem!

Ciao reviewer, I?m glad you like the pic .. Boobalee was quite a charmer. ( smile)

In Italian a cat : urla..verb urlare.... which means screams.

I did look up on internet in English before using the words screams and wails .

and this is just one entry I found :

    Why does my cat scream?
One of the main reasons cats scream is because they're angry or afraid ? hence why cat screaming often happens during cat fights. ... Aging cats can show signs of confusion or dementia, and they may scream if they get startled or fearful of their surroundings. Cats may also scream if they're in distress.Jun 14, 2018

Also the fact that the terms were use in a poem , I would have thought gave me more freedom..

Sorry , I?m not english so I do not understand what helter-skelter means ?

I?m glad my last line made an impression .. it?s an important part of my story after all.

    Thanks for reading my entry

    Ciao,

I consulted my Italian wife. She agrees with you. "Scream" it is.

helter-skelter = sometimes you have one, sometimes two, sometimes three lines grouped together.

Actually I had no doubt in Italian, but now you have the confirmation even better
    ( wink )

..by the way from what region is your wife ..I'm from the north , my father was born in Valtellina , which is at the foot of the Alps.. my mother was Dutch from The Hague.

Thanks for explain that term ..I have been writing wee poems just over 18 months ...I'm still getting use to all the formats and rules .. ( biggrin )

    Ciao !

#This is a neat poem about losing a pet. So many of us have had similar experiences, and yes, the quiet is sob lonely afterwards. My cat just went into the closet and died

This is a sad story and we are lost when we lose a pet as we become so attached to them. His condition sounds unusual and the vet's don't know everything, a very sad story, love Dolly x
