I loved this little story. Any story about a dog is a good story. Hopefully we will get through these difficult times soon, and maybe with help from some unexpected places we can.

Thank you for the wonderful 6 stars, Robert.
As you know, I prefer writing lots of words, haha, thus a novelist, but I couldn?t help going for a challenge.
Trixie was smart and protective.
I?d like to think my Grandma was smart, DNA link and all, but I do know she was resourceful, and raising 6 kids on the prairie, she had to use everything she had.
I guess you cab say they were practicing Social Distancing out on the farm before it was popular.

That?s a wonderful idea. I?ve always considered my dad my muse. To kick my imagination back in gear, focusing on his stories, those I can remember, would be a great start.

It is wonderful that you have your dad to remember that way. That is really interesting about the DDG! He must have had an incredible imagination. That would be a good story how he was the inspiration for that.

Thanks for your lively review. My dad always said Pit Bulls were made to work, which Trixie did out in West Texas on their cotton farm. He said they only got mean when they were brought into the city and tied up.

Many years ago we stayed on a farm for a break. Our son was 18 months old and into everything. The farmer took Philip out into the garden and told his sheep dog to mind him. He was amazing, when Philip tried to get out of the garden, the dog pulled him back. I really wanted to take that dog home with us! lol. Your story brought back that lovely memory, and I had to smile at the image of Trixie laying across your father to stop him getting out of the circle. Lovely story, and a winner in my mind for the contest. Good luck! I'm going to vote now. :)) Sandra xx

I remember my grandmother telling me that she could leave my mamma ( born in the Hague..Holland in 1935) in the pram outside ...their German Shepard would guard her against curious people or any possible danger..
Those prams were very big and heavy in those days so not to have to drag them in was a blessing.
Thank you for sharing a family story and for the hope you instill in your closing paragraph...

I?m glad you got the point in the ending as well. I tried to think what advice my father would have given if he were still alive. He always told stories when he had something important to say.
