Measles! My first born, Nancy Jean came down with the measles when she was two and a half. We lived in another town with no relatives close by and Jim was a traveling salesman for H. G. Heinz Company. Rhonda was a few months old but I suppose immune from breast milk. I had to hold Nancy and rock her for hours. I thought I was going to loose her, her fever was so high.I had them as a child and so did Jim. You bring so many memories back with your story. Well done dear. Stay on and stay safe. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy, I guess every one who lived in those days have similar memories and can relate. My other children didn't get measles because they got the vaccine. I was five when I had them and I can still remember.

I really do enjoy reading this. I have a teaching degree and always stayed at home until my boys got into full time school. It just seemed easier. Thank you for sharing.

The news was depressing and made me a little nervous. (It hasn't changed, has it?)

The Fishing trip took us to Clearwater, Florida. (lower case 'f' on Fishing)

Hi Beth, It's good to commemorate your life in this way. I wish more people would do it... and more! I'm doing all I can to tell stories of my family, things from when we were kids, growing up, and things like that. I'm writing down anything and everything my dad will tell me about what he did as a kid, and the things he does now sometimes just slay me! They all go right on paper... as it were. This past Christmas I did a book for my parents, in 28 size print so my mom could read it, (when I started, then my Christmas, she couldn't read it) :( Now she's gone. But I'm still going, for the next generations, so they have a lot to read! We have things from my Nana, hers is really great, she grew up in the early 1900s, a time of great invention! We also have one from her great grandfather(?) he had an epiphany and became a circuit preacher, and also one from her husband's grandfather... he worked for the railroad, way back at the start and was part of the beginning of the RR Union. He represented his people for his entire working life! :) It's all amazing stuff to read. All but my nana said, their kids were making them write this stuff... they didn't know who'd ever want to read such drivel. LOL The answer, of course, is US!!! :)

Thanks for reading my story and for your comments. I enjoyed reading what you said. On of the reasons I started this is because I'm into genealogy and I so wish everyone had left something behind so I could know what life was like for those who passed down their DNA. I am also writing what I know of my parents and grandparents. I know a little about my ggrandmother that I learned from her daughter. I used to make my grandfather tell me stories and I loved them but I can only remember parts of his growing up days.

Your life is still fascinating to me. The idea of talking to your husband makes the whole story so alive.
When I came to the point where you describe the pregnancy of your second child, I had to think of my own two pregnancies. I was taking birth control pills from the start of our marriage because I wanted to wait a bit before starting being a mother. Within a year I was pregnant with Mascha. The doctor thought that I may have forgotten the pill on a crucial day. After she was born, I started the pill again but although I was certain this time I did not forget even one,...yes! A few months later I was pregnant again. Mascha and Pepijn only differ for 13 months. No, birth control does not always work!

Thank you for the review and comments. I'm glad you think this method of telling my story works. You are so right. No birth control is 100 % effective.

Got all interested and poof - no more. ;)
you really had some times with that baby, didn't you? I remember 1961 well. I got married in '61 and had a real variety of different jobs from being an EEG technician, to a reservationist for Delta Airlines.
Boy, think of the jobless out there, now.
Anyway, your story is fascinating. good work.

I love reading your stories. Your family history is very interesting to me, especially because I was born during that same era, while my parents would have been raising me. You go into such wonderful detail.

Thank you for sharing another chapter of your story of your early married years, as you have narrated them to your deceased husband. Your writing flows very well and I find it enjoyable.

Thank you so much for this review and for you sharp to catch all these typos. You deserve another nomination. To think I once worked as a proofreader and I let all these slip by. You're amazing.

Thank you for sharing another wonderful chapter from your life. Lovely moments with your first child and the scares and joys that comes with being a parent for the first time.
Good luck with your next chapter, and stay safe, my friend.
