This is lovely, reverential and devout, Lisa May, and full of much-needed optimism that we will get through this current crisis.

Having walked the three long and very steep blocks of Lombard Street in San Francisco, from the bottom to the top of the hill (the straight walk, not the crooked part), I can most assuredly sympathize with you. I wasn't sure I'd make it up Lombard, so I can't imagine how anyone does Baldwin on a regular basis. (Yes, your comment did intrigue me enough to look it up.)

The image (I take it to be one of your photos?) is beautiful. One of the prettiest churches I've seen. We're certainly challenged under our present circumstances to have faith and get through this. Well done. Marilyn

Yes, I took the photo... it is the local catholic church. There are many churches in our valley but I like the architectural simplicity of this one, and the avenue of rose bushes. Several years ago, lightning struck the steeple and it was demolished, but the community contributed to have it fixed. I can see it from my window, so it is nice to see it poking up as a symbol of renewal.

A very well-written 5-7-5 suite about the realization that God Is still in control of everything even now when it seems all dark and gloomy without much hope for the future but we sense He will guide us through.

LisaMay your poem is a comforting composition and yes I took the uphill battle literally. These words have deep meaning for me...

"Do I dare to doubt,
'midst angels and miracles?
Hope, you are still there."

We all dare to doubt. But, then we cannot overlook the meaning of Jesus's life. What he accomplished and sacrificed here on earth for us.
My doubts arise from the fact that it is so amazing and too good to be true. But then we know for sure it is true. He died, and He rose again.

The Creation is beyond amazing. Birth for one is one of the greatest miracles I have ever experienced.

    Thanks for reviewing.
Easter is the time when Jesus's sacrifice is most apparent - the story is fresh all over again. Yes, it is amazing - at times challenging, but well worth holding onto with both hands and all our hearts.

lovely - the church and your poem -and it is an uphill climb to keep close to God - even tho it should not be - as He tells us if we even whisper His name - and that He knows our prayers before we say them.
but I really did like your poem - and how nice to see the old-fashioned streets - and the church on the hill.

Years ago, people did not miss a service. They were fearful, but somehow the fear and trembling has been cast aside in this generation. Maybe, this virus and lockdown will change the way people think. I hope so!
Well written shorts.

Poetic words to inspire -Looks like a beautiful rural, peaceful setting - churches may experience a form of renewal when they reopen following the demise of this deadly virus

Author notes helped round this poem out. I like the sentiments and the background explanation. Cannot find anything to improve on. Very much a perfect Easter poem, without going into detail. It is just a matter of time, I think, before this virus crisis is resolved. I am still hoping for a good run of 86-degree and up weather, probably by end of May here.

Thanks for you 'shiny' review! (We use centigrade temperatures here, so I had to convert your 86 degrees to see what it would be here - 30 degrees. That would be considered hot in my area.)

Thank you for so beautifully and metaphorically describing the battle we are all facing. Hopefully we will all learn something from this experience and will gain strength to grow - Jerry
