Great Biography, about Danial Boone. I like how history always adds height and strength to our heroes. Thanks for sharing your research about him. Maybe at one time, he might have worn a coon hat.

Hi Earl, oh, I can understand why you won this competition. It is very well written and you've put more flesh on the Boone character. Even though, I'm half a American but gown up in Europe and lived here all my life, I did know about him. But now you made him come fully alive. Congrats on your win. Ulla:)))

I found this story to be very interesting and not exactly as I had pictured him in my mind. I too watched the TV shows were his character was depicted by Fess Parker. This seems to be well researched and accurately done. It seems he had a lot of setbacks in his life and didn't do so well when it came to land speculation.

I love your biography of Daniel Boone! I think I also read about him, growing up, and found him fascinating, even though I was a girl -- but I probably didn't know fact from fiction.

You have really done your homework here, separating the true story from the legends about this remarkable man.

The frontier was often a very scary place! We get upset if there's a shortage of toilet paper, but these people -- Boone, his family, his associates, friends and enemies -- they really had it tough. Unimaginable!

I learned a lot from your story. I don't think I ever heard of the French and Indian War, way back in 1754 -- wow, that's almost two and a half centuries ago.

You asked that we be kind, as reviewers. I found a lot of errors, which I listed, along with the suggested corrections. Is that kind, or unkind? My intention is to be kind, but you can decide for yourself. A number of corrections concern stylistic issues like sentence fragments or run-in sentences, and there were some typos etc. I didn't point out a number of instances where you have extra spaces in the text; but they're in there, if you look for them.

Here goes:

Nowadays one of the most overlooked American pioneers is Daniel Boone. Probably because he isn't really taught in history classes.

***

If Rebecca had a baby while Boone was presumed dead, and the father was Daniel's brother Ned, it must have been a bittersweet homecoming and family reunion. Obviously, Rebecca and her brother-in-law had developed feelings for each other. I would love to hear Rebecca's side of it!

"James and another boy were tortured and killed." Yikes! Talk about hardships and heartache! Then Boone and his wife lost their son Israel in a battle. Boone and his family suffered a lot.

Interesting: "the Shawnees destroyed crops and killed farm animals" -- they could be ruthless, even killing farm animals! It's hard to judge impartially, when there's war going on, and it depends which side you're on. Torturing boys was way over the top. The Geneva Conventions were still far in the future, yet even now, they're not always followed.

Thank you for writing this eye-opening account of the life of Daniel Boone!

You're very welcome, Earl. Is that you in the picture, or Daniel Boone? Pardon my humor, please -- I saw the hat and the gun, and I couldn't resist ;-)

This is one of the most interesting and best pieces I have read. This is not just because I've heard tales of Daniel Boone and happen to be a Kentuckian. Without checking your information, it appears to be a factual, yet glamourous account of the man many of us admire. I saw a few typographical errors, but it is difficult for me to address those on internet, I believe a more in depth account of Boone's life and his family would be a must read for history buffs.

The amount of knowledge (and I'm assuming, research) in this story is very impressive! I appreciate the fact that you delve into the 'real' life of Daniel Boone as opposed to just rehashing the legend. Great work ð???

Your star rating doesn't jive with your review, could you please tell me why an "impressive" story rated only four stars?

I love your biography on Daniel Boone. I am 65 and
remember the t.v.show and all the Daniel Boone toys and
clothing.
Your biography is spot on as I have read numerous
books and articles on the famous frontiersman. I hope the
youth of today take the time to learn and appreciate the
lives Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.
As a youth my brother and I got a Fort Boonseboro
play set for Christmas, one of the best toys we ever got!
I could go on, your story brought back a lot of
memories. Your story is well written and polished.
Thank you for sharing.
Peace,
Richie b
