What a horrible situation. Worrying about your job is bad enough, but not having any idea of what's going on must have been worse. Fortunately, times have changed, and sacking people without warning is not so easy these days, but I'm sure it happens all the same.

Some days things go will and some days not so good. I guess that is the way life goes. Thanks again for the review.

I was thinking about the situation we have now with jobs, facilities closing because of the pandemic. I did not know back in the days, when we grew up, things were so scary in losing a job. With your experience you could definitely find work other places.

It didn't usually have much trouble getting a job but women weren't paid very well. I was just thankful my husband who made more than me was able to always have a job.

I enjoyed reading your interesting chapter. I worked as a graphic designer for a while back in the days of offset CMYK 4-colour process printing. I bet people blinked when you told them you were a 'stripper'! I also found other aspects interesting: attitudes to racial matters, men assuming it was OK to rub up against or touch females; and also how redundancy was treated.

The sentence at the top in your Background needs adjusting:
In my new job with the printing company, I (am) being trained in things than wasn't (that weren't) part of the original requirement.

Dear Beth, this chapter seems dire at best, like you,
I am wondering if you will soon be unemployed.
As for your writing skills, they are always top-notch with only a typo or two.
What I like best about your style, is that you always end with a cliff-hanger, that makes the reader eager for your next post.

Hi Beth, it must have been a difficult situation you were in. With no rights for women workers in those days you were at the mercy of the men. What a situation! And now people were laid off. No wonder you felt bad, but still needing the money. I'm looking forward to what's next. Ulla:)))

This is another excellent snippet of your life. The work force was a hard place for women back then, because men thought they were free to do whatever they wanted. I think you did well trying to avoid unwanted situations. Well done again.

Wow--what a dream! And now you're the only one left--a lone woman between Rob and Dave. This keeps getting better. Touching details about family life and interesting descriptions about your challenging work! Cheers. LIZ

I like your story but can not understand why the man would keep his empolyees in the dark concerning thier jobs. Some one needed a fresher course in business managment. thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ben. I think my case, he wouldn't tell me because at that point, I don't don't think he knew for sure.. Since I was the last one hired, I was probably on the list to be laid off. They could send the art work out and the girls up front could handle the proofreading but the printing prep department was short and he needed me there. He may have had to argue with the owners to keep me, or he may have been waiting to make sure I could handle the more complicated work. Also, he'd owned a small shop but he never been the plant manager of big company before. He probably needed a management course. He could have used one on how to treat women as well.

Glad you were able to separate the twins. The maid definitely should not have taken the kids. What if she had a car accident. Guess there was a lot of sexual harassment on the job back then. That old man's response was a hoot.
Our family would break out in song when on long trips too. All of has good voices.
Did Donna lose her job? Scary about all the lay offs.

Thank you for the review and comments. That is neat that you family sang on trips too. No Donna didn't lose her job but had cried at that first meeting. She and I finally got to be good friends, and we had this psychic thing going between us. She and I had some unexplained connection that came out over the years. That was the first time, but there was several times when weird stuff happened. I may get to it later.
