such a pretty poem
your 8 meter is great and reads very easily, "poem" as one syllable is so nice to see
the BD rhymes are good
I really like "emote" as the beautiful birds are quite theatrical indeed
lovely write as I was sitting on your patio with you it was such a clear image
I am surprised that the lilac/lavender trees actually turn burgendy where you are as here in Australia they stay lavender and some with rich soil turn a slightly deeper shade we cloud call purple
though I have noticed that a lot of things are described differently here in Aus , as burgendy to us is a rich rustic deep reddish brown
have a smiley day

I truly appreciate your taking the time to read and comment in-depth about my poem, Smiley. I am especially pleased you enjoyed so many elements of it. If we get lots of rain prior to their blooming, the lilac blossoms are burgundy. But if we get too much sun, they fade.

What a truly beautiful tribute to Spring this is! I literally drank in every word, and felt like I was sprawled out on my own canvas chair instead of hunched over my pc lol! I loved the presentation also; the colour choices were marvellous and a perfect complement to the poem. Best of luck in the voting!

You have lovely Spring memories of lilac blooms, sweet smells on the breeze, and robins building nests. Spring's beauty will come no matter if the virus stays or not.

I loved that apartment and enjoying the scent of lilacs while sitting on that old back porch with the windows open. Thank you for sharing this bit of nostalgia.

Those were the good old days.

I could smell the fragrant lilacs as I read your poem. The picture you chose is perfect with this entry as well. On top of all of that are your beautifully constructed verses that tell a lovely story in a most romantic way. Good luck in the contest. This poem is a winner.

Thank you so much for your wonderful praise. I am curious, however, about what I?d have to do to rate five stars.

Spring in all its glorious and scented splendour evoked here fondly and so effectively in these stanzas - such an exquisite visual to illustrate - I can almost get the lilac scent at this remove !!

I have robins that nest on the gutters of my home. They come every year. They swoop down on us as we pass through our backyard. They are amazing birds. I wish they would use our lilac bush, its in the backyard. Your poem is beautifully written. There are great visuals and you can even smell the flowers blooming. Wonderful. -January L.

I am. delighted I could put you in the midst of my yard where you can sniff the lilacs and see the nesting birds. Thank you very much for your kind praise, January.

Splendid use of the iambic meter and the rhyming is spot on. Enjoyed this spring poem and I love the lilac letters - ties it all together. Can't find any fault.

Thank you very much, Margaret, for your high praise of my Spring poem.
Comment from Amanda Louise Davis
I love this, but the first line throws the whole meter off. May I suggest:
Spring has always made me think
Spring has brought me memories of.
Spring has brought me visions of

I am so pleased you love my poem, Amanda. Line 1 has iambic rhythm. I wonder if you did not see the apostrophe I used in MEM?RIES.
-
Yes, It's actually got too many sillables even so.
-
I count only eight. SPRING?s AL WAYS BROUGHT ME MEM RIES OF.
-
That's nine.
1. Spring
2. has
3. al
4. ways
5.brought
6. me
7. mem
8. ries
9.of
-
There is no HAS in the line. SPRING?S ( contraction of spring has but pronounced as one syllable).

A lovely, well-written, and beautifully rhyming poem. Your love and wonder about all that happens in Spring comes forward in this Lilac's Bloom spring poem. I can smell the lilac and see the robins. I loved it.

This is lovely, and the best so far of the "Spring" entries I've read. Your words paint not only pictures but emotions, as your love of and longing for springtime and the birds and the lilacs come through very clearly. I appreciate your touching on several senses, from sight to smell to sound. Your choice of text color also helps to reinforce the lilac image. I wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you, Michelle, for your wonderful praise of my poem. This season is so easy to write about as I love everything about it.
-
There's a difference between "easy to write about" and "easy to write about well." You wrote about it well, so take the credit. :-)

Thank you!

You're welcome!
