So you did get chance to start your venture. It sounds like a normal family; ice cream; breakfast at a restaurant and then sleeping in the back of the pick-up on a mattress. Happy adventures!

I always enjoyed traveling but that trip had some drawbacks. I sure you read about those.

This is so interesting! I love reading true stories about people and especially their history. You make your stories come alive with vivid description and word paintings. I see only two needed edits. You have done a good job with this. I will send a PM when I get home.

Dear Beth, this chapter you should title "Things you should never do with your children " and submit it to a parenting magazine.
You may save many a parent, years from now, for not going to jail for child abuse.
Laws may change over the years, but children on sugar highs have not

Thank you Suzanna, I appreciate the review. You probably have a good idea there. Too bad kids don't come with instruction. You just have to learn the hard way.

Oh dear, Beth, this doesn't bode well. I'm fascinated with the story and you do write it so very well. I'm there with you all. So this is 1966-67. I was 14-15 years old at the time, growing up in Denmark. Too young to know much about hippies, let alone married life with young children. I'm looking forward to what's next. Ulla:)))

This chapter reminded me of the difficulty keeping both sets of family happy when Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled around. Then the unexpected problems that cropped up any time we ventured out for a week or weekend get-a-way. We did a lot of that and always took our children with us. We were close than, and are close now. Thank God for his blessings. Well done Beth. I for one am enjoying your story very much and it holds my interest. Love Nancy:)

Thank you so much for the review and nice comments, Nancy. Yes trying to juggle times to get families together for holidays is always a problem. I'm so glad you enjoying my story. That one was a little long. I added some stuff to the beginning. I probably should have made two out of it.

I enjoyed reading this. I feel you are doing a great job writing these memoirs.

It was a year for hippies and flower children, but for our family, we were more interested in keeping our jobs and raising our children than we were in what might be happening in California and rest of the world. (AMEN!!!)

There is always someone who gets picked on, and it is hard to make sure your chiid isn't one of the bullies. (CHILD????)

This was a great piece, a very relatable, enjoyable read. Staying up late to assembling, play with Christmas presents ( I had to make sure they worked.) The not so bright ideas at a birthday party. (A bunch of six-year-olds playing dress-up with old makeup, not a great idea.) I do hope your trip gets better. I look forward to reading more.

I am enjoying your memories but I do think it would be better if you had this post as two posts. The holidays would be one (amazing you got through all that and stayed sane!) and the part about party and road trip could be another. Just a suggestion.
Spags/Comments:
"your sibling and their families " (siblings)
" had nightmare when he got back home " (nightmares? or a nightmare?)
"It was a year for hippy's" (hippies)
"Carol seat-mate in school" (Carol's)

Thank you so much for the review. Yes, I almost split it into two chapters last night when I was posting it because I realized that. It is what I get for adding a few things to this chapter after it was already written, but since I've got several more chapters finished I decided I have to keep it like it was to keep from confusing the sequence and having a lot to rewrite. I did correct those spags last night when reread it but thanks for pointing them out.

Captivating. Delightful wry humor; narrative flows beautifully. The device of writing as if addressing your husband throughout this series is clever and original. Cheers. LIZ
