I absolutely love poppies - very flamboyant and vibrant. I am waiting for ours to bloom in the front yard. They do sway gently in the breeze on a hot summer night. Great artwork to accompany your haiku.

Your ultra-concise haiku speaks movingly of the beauty of those red poppies, while sending the reader an unspoken reminder of their symbolism of the oceans of soldiers' bloods.

A very well-written haiku about the summer poppies that are red of color and reminds of the blood of dead relatives that are buried in the fields of war and battles.

I really want to raise this to a five-star, but some change is needed. If you want to work on it a little more, I will be glad to go back and check it out again. It is a beautiful posting, but it really is not haiku. Haiku only presents something that can actually be observed in nature in a moment of time. It is not possible to literally see memories in this natural world. You might think about editing the second line to say something about holding a photograph of lost blood relatives...that is something that could physically exist. The syllable count for this contest is not strict and can be other than 5-7-5.

This is a lovely edit...I can see those scarlet waves rippling across a field of poppies near the ocean. I'm very happy to go back and add a star to the original review. :-)

Very good haiku, Gypsy! Only the word "blood" reminds me of the haiku and poem I wrote. Yours is so different and a lot more friendly! Reading also your background, I see you have and had relatives in Spain and you spent your childhood here. Your haiku is directly related to the lovely poppiie-fields in Spain (also in Mallorca). It was a joy to read this, Gypsy!

A clever play on words here and poppies have great significance in our society and I have written about them often and they seem to have survived the trials we humans have put them through, from drug wars to the famous Flanders fields, here they bring memories of home and lost relatives, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

To see a field of poppies must be awe-inspiring. I have seen a few large fields of sunflowers - it felt surreal. I like this - makes me think how we lose touch of all those cousins (first and second, etc) we played with at huge family gatherings as children. Then, we somehow lose touch... but they are out there. FB has actually helped me reunite with one cousin and I am thrilled about that. She's my "lost and found poppy" I guess :)

Nicely bright and red. I do like poppies even though they are a rather delicate bloom, which certainly can account for lost-blood relatives.

This is a fine poem and I very much like the idea of comparing poppies to relatives.

Thanks for sharing today. :)
