An excellent and enigmatic poem that is well structured and formed with assured use of rhyme. The imagery of the mask begs such a metaphorical treatment and you completely rise to the occasion it demands.

I just adored your story...and I am not one to read such long stories... But yours blew me away....
I just loved it...
May I make one suggestion... instead of ....her face he didn't see... perhaps a more poetic voice would be to say ..her face he did not see.. just seems to flow better..I read it out loud several times and felt I stumbled on didn't..(.and did not seems more poetic...)
as it really doesn't feel correct for your wonderful poem...

Oh wow, that's quite creepy and an original write! The story is absolutely engaging and the reader gets carried along on this enjoyable (occasionally bumpy) ride wondering what mysteries will unfold. The surprise ending is skilfully done. Thank you for sharing. Debbie

This is a beautifully written poem. I see why it would win a contest. It has a Great flow and rhyme scheme. Your choice in photo works very well with your poem.

You are channeling Edgar Allen Poe. Oh dear, a fateful night and a last chance at romance with a mask from a fateful shopkeeper and a fateful antique shop which was preordained for this poor hapless woman to wear. Life just isn't fair.

My favorite part was, "The mask had trapped another soul,
it always found a way.
she dreamed of all the night had held,
then later died that day.", because the twist you used near the end of the poem! Great job!
The Lord led me to this verse after I read this,
Proverbs 31:30 New International Version (NIV)
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Hello Boogienights!
Oh my goodness!
What a wonderful story-poem that reads so well aloud!
Full of creativity and story.
Full of keen and emotive imagery.
Full of rhythm and... allure!
Loved it.
Now... just one nit: Its (It's )something she had never felt
Congratulations on your win!
