Ah-ha! Very clever! I love the double meaning. I expected one thing and got a new perspective immediately. You pieced this together very well and intelligently. Nicely done.

As the saying goes: "It's Greek to me!" I went to Mr. Google and all I could find was good old Shakespeare's "Shylock" character popping up from page to page to page... (Interestingly one definition was that the URBAN USE OF SHYLOCK these days is like a "loan-SHARK!"--- Sometimes Mr. Google can be stubborn and anyway, I'd absolutely take your word on the fact Pantygynt knows these are dangerous shallows... (Just thought I'd look for a definition so I could tell myself I learned a new word today)--Enough about Google and Me! You did about as much with a 5-7-5 as is allowed this side of heaven...and your "loan shark" cartoon tickle me pink! Good show!--Karenina

Thanks for your review, Karenins. Yes, I went straight to Google, too, but couldn?t find anything. Perhaps it?s jargon that?s specific to the Royal Marines.

Could well be! There is a book about sharks out there that has the name shylock in it...so I'm sure it's valid even if in a specific vernacular!--Karenina

So a group of sharks are referred to as a shiver, and shylocks are dangerous shallows. We learn something new each day. You said a lot in only a few words. And a pound of flesh their wage. ~Mel~

Tony,
There is always a shyster with an ace up his sleeve.
Beware of the small print and used car salesmen with
small mustaches.
Your poem says it all!
Beast wishes in contest.

Hi Tony. I always was led to believe a shylock was a person of ill repute..a con man etc. LOL

"A shiver of sharks " is wonderful alliteration my friend. The entire 5-7-5 entry has winner written all over it as a matter of fact.

Bravo! : ) Bob

I learned something from your poem, I didn't know a group of sharks was called a shiver or shylocks are dangerous shallows. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

This is a well written short poem which well meets the contest criteria. I especially like the middle line. The picture is outstanding and gave me an instant laugh.

"A Shiver of Sharks", is short succinct and very much to the point. With a minimum of words, this talented poet has told it as it is. To me, this is a six, but unfortunately I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post.
