I really enjoyed reading your upbeat poem. It was a welcome relief from all the bad childhood some claim to have had. Those of us who were happy children probably grew up to be happier adults. We were the lucky ones.

It sounds like you have some fun with those fire hydrants! Those were the days when kids were able to run around and have freedom without being afraid. There are so many dangers for kids today. Your poem is a joy to read, happy past times here, love Dolly x

This is the best one I've read by far in this category. The photo is absolutely perfect. This is a lovely poetic story. The rhyming is solid and unforced. Best of luck in the contest.

This is good as far as conveying the nostalgia, but the meter needs work, not the rhyme, just the meter of it. Thanks for sharing this with us. Sounds like a good childhood.

Thanks for reading. I really don't pay much attention to meter and sllyable counts. I just write from the heart, and go with what sounds good to me. Thanks again. :)

This is a terrific entry into the childhood contest. Running through a sprung fire hydrant could be fun as long as it didn't go on for too long and flood all the buildings.

Loved the line about the most dangerous thing you felt was your mama combing tangles from your hair. That is quite the ouchie for sure.

Written with a terrific rhythm and rhyme and a real warm tone.

Wishing you great luck with the voters.

Gloria
