A very well-written heartfelt childhood story that is familiar with everyone over fifty. The sun was our guide to send us home and after all the playing and running we were never late for dinner.

I'll Remember the Laughter, is a fond look back to a family having a good life. The sad occurrences roll in to make us remember, we are human who must live in the moment.

Hello, anonymous,

A wonderful entry for the Childhood writing prompt contest. You followed the rules of the contest well. Nice presentation and clear Syntex. Good rhyming scheme. It flows well. Your memories are bittersweet and most people can relate to that. Well done. Good luck.

Yes, you are right, keeps those memories closed to your heart for comfort and joy -
Now there's just me. When I look back, I see
days of freedom and fun in the sun --
riding our bikes, going camping, and hikes.
Oh, if only those days were re-run.

Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

I like your poem, it brought up feelings in me that I haven't felt in a long time. But it didn't flow smoothly from start to end. It's clear you have talent though. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it was apparent early on that you are a Brit (the fact reinforced by other Britticisms)
Your childhood had much in common with memories of former kids from everywhere.
Excellent job!

There are some ups and downs in your childhood here and experiencing a death in the family is something that is indeed challenging for a child, and you were so young when your Mum died, a poignant write and the last stanza brought a tear to my eye, love Dolly x

Your poem was amazing! I remembered my own childhood in the line, "Away at the park we played until dark," because our parents only came to look if we weren't home after dark. They never worried about what we were doing up until that point. Then when you were ten, life started to drastically change and that made the whole mood of the poem change. I thought it would be happy and carefree the whole way through. You were able to pack a whole lifetime story into one poem which is amazing but I wish your pain hadn't started at such a young age. I am so sorry for that! Great poem!
