Poor Keith before he was a trouble maker, but now he changed his ways. Nice to read the happy ending. I have enjoyed reading your story. Excellent work! Congratulations on winning the contest!

Congratulations on your win! I enjoyed reading your entry. You did a good job telling this story. I was engaged from start to finish to learn how it would end. I like the positive ending. It gives all a ray of hope. Thanks for sharing.

This is an inspirational story well told, as an example of "don't judge a book by its cover", and also blows away the common misconception that a bad family background condemns people to a difficult life forever. Keith overcomes his past and with love and his own motivation finds acceptance and success.
I found, though, that the story was riddled with typos and once I started noticing them it put me on alert, watching for more, when I should've been immersed in the story.

Susan had stated (started) drinking with friends,

"Yeah, I'd loved (remove the d) to if you two don't mind.

His dad had baled (bailed) him out of jail

Keith had moved in with with (remove with) a girl

My family would disown me if (add I) brought someone like him home

He was ever (every) bit as open and honest with them

with her parents (parents') blessings

Thank you for the review and comments. I'm surprised that it won the contest in spite of a few spags. I guess no one else saw them. My eyes have been really bad with allergies this week. Now that they are corrected I hope you can change the rating.
    Thanks,

This story was captivating and held me interest from beginning to end. The pace and sense of timing was excellent and kept me waiting to see how it ended.

This is a well-written story, rich in events and emotion. I enjoyed reading it very much, except the end where I found that it rushed to closure.
Good luck in the contest.

This story is very well developed. The reader is invited to examine their bias and prejudices. The main character shoots a whole right through those biases. Addicts & alcoholics are people just like you & me. "There but for the grace of God go you & I." I came to love some of the recovering patients where I worked in a substance abuse/psych hospital. This is a powerful story. Thank you.

Nice, hopeful story. It's always been amazing to me how an interesting, fully lived life story beats safe and dull every time. I also love hearing stories of someone who's been able to overcome those lesson barriers, and moved beyond. And giving back. Nicely done story.

I truly enjoyed reading this story. I felt it flowed very well, and the story line held my interest. The
Graphic associated with this almost led me to believe that the romance would be between the woman and Tommy! Great writing!

As fiction, this is a great story, well told. As a true story it blows me away. What an incredible set of circumstances that lead two people together.
