Getting to know Orleans...so am I, learning from this chapter. Everything so very well described. The biggest shock was to learn about the pastor who got electrocuted by the microphone after being wet with the baptism-water. Brrrr, just to think about it gives me the shivers. Glad to see everybody found their place and at ease there, the children making new friends, you finding a new job, you all found a new church community, shopping nearby and all kind of exciting new things to learn. Looks good!

Thank you Marjon. I know you know what it is like to move into a diffferent culture. I thought it was fun. I'm glad I had the opportunity to live there.

That was a big difference in the cultures and it had to be an adventure. Everything was working out fine for you and it sounds as though the job was going to work out as well.
We had a little bit of mixed cultures in Las Vegas. Actually we lived in Henderson, just a few miles up from Sin City. We moved West from Illinois because jobs were scarce there and he made a good living in Nevada so I didn't have to work and could be home with the children.
Well done, Beth. Nancy:)

I didn't realize New Orleans was so diverse. I imagine it was quite a learning experience with all the cultures, different dialect and customs. Your chapter is well-written, very educational yet interesting start to finish. I look forward to reading more.

To say New Orleans is an interesting city, is an understatement. LOL Yes, it has a lot of different cultures and heritages. Thank you for sharing. I am enjoying reading.

If the were calling their child it was not "come here" but rather "come by me." (they????)

As you relate your findings and actions to your deceased husband the scope of your discoveries is very interesting. You could be a tour guide with the information you are rendering. It is quite convenient how you have met and connected with other newly settled families. Your description of the various parts of New Orleans offers us intelligent information.
NB:
stories>this should be stores
Another group we became acauainted > acquainted
in what as known>as doesn't fit.
If the were > "they"

Thank you for the review. I enjoyed living there. Some of the food was a little to much for me but some of it I really enjoyed. I don't eat a lot of meat. The blood sausage turned me off.

German food. I do not eat blood food no matter how it is prepared. I don't blame you. I also refuse eating Lobster with cheddar cheese in an open split tail.
I have driven Greyhound Buses when it rained there with water up to my baggage bins. They buried the dead above ground in most places.
    Yes, very exciting place.

My wife,Anna has going to New Orleans on her bucket list. While reading I noticed your paragraphs are huge. I try to keep mine between 3-5 sentences. Did you mean stores instead of stories?

Thank you for the review. You need to take your wife to New Orleans. You are right about many of the paragraphs being long. I cut most of the down. I fixed the stores as well. Thank you.

I hadn't realized New Orleans was such an international city, but it makes sense. This must have been pre-Katrina? I enjoyed reading it very much. Keep on writing!

Thank ;you so much for the review and comments. Yes it was pre-Katrina. I hope it has lost it's charm. I've not been back since the hurricane.

A fascinating read. I've always been intrigued by new Orleans and often thought of moving there.

After my father died, I wrote a journal for my mom to recollect my dad and her as a couple, as individuals and as parents. It's a nice endeavor.

Lots of luck and love to you

I enjoyed it. You have a remarkable way of bringing the past to the present. I found this very interesting to read. My only suggestion is look at places where you can show vs telling. It's easy to fall into the tell trap.

>> At my new job, I learned I would be working with an older man, who would be doing most of the camera work.

This is a perfect place to show. Add dialogue and show us what he was like.

Great job overall. I enjoyed it.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I really appreciate them and you are right about showing ve. telling. I usually try to that when I write. Sometimes I think these are going to run too long and dialogue takes up a lot of room.
