Hi Ron, where I come from it's called taking the piss. Well done, a man after my own heart.
Just one thing, a few years ago when I went to school our Maths teacher told us to be wary of statistics, and proceeded to prove by using maths that we all had eleven fingers. So since then I don't trust anyone who says count with the fingers.
That said, I enjoyed reading your detailed instructions even if you were one out every time. I don't enjoy complex calculations so you will rarely find me writing poetry.
So I hope I haven't got your dander up I'd hate to be threatened with a bunch of sixes or is that fives?
I must say that at no time have I ever attempted a 5-7-5, or a 7-5-7 although I believe I have flown in one.
Good luck in the contest. ~Mel~

This is by far our favorite entry for this contest that we've read yet. The video accompanying this story is absolutely perfect and funny. You've managed to be hilariously condescending. I don't remember this contest booth, has it started yet? Have a wonderful day.

Haha, this is a grat tutorial. I enjoyed it. Of course your contest entry is appropriate for this contest--no need to count syllables. I agree 110% about what happens that makes the entries linger forever instead of going to the booth. Maybe the next tutorial could include how to write the seventeen syllables in a pleasing way rather than just make a sentence of that many and then break it up into the 575.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

I very much enjoyed this teasing lesson...my goodness, now I realized I had fve fingers in one hand all the time! I imagine myself being this teacher and talking to my children when they were kids. I wish you the best, best in the contest.

DS,

hahahahahahaha! Is this a How-To contest or a Pet Peeve contest? haha Either way, I loved it! I'm not sure how or why it gets so hard - maybe when people start revising their original entry, maybe?

Great stuff! Good luck!

Thank you for the great review, Robyn. Yeah, I had to use this opportunity to do a little bit of ranting. lol Thank you for hosting the contest. I had great fun with it. I appreciate the gracious stars. I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

This was so amusing. Especially as I was actually guilty of having a six in there at my last attempt, and yes astonishinly (to me) the committee waited for me. My only excuse is that I count out the syllables when I'm walking to work (yes, on my fingers) so become distracted easily by the reactions of my neighbours who are all convinced I have gone into premature dotage.

Ha Ha! Thank you for the awesome review and giant sixer, Katherine. Yeah, no matter how many of us deny it, we all count on our fingers. I'd probably have a hard time counting and walking too. lol I dearly appreciate the gracious rating and I hope you have yourself a great weekend and thank you again.

But don't we just run into trouble. life is not as simple as you would have us think

Here is a little 5-7-5 or is it? That all depends on how you says it!

Cruel fire burns - 3, 4 or 5 syllables
squirrels virtually free 5, 6 or 7 syllables
steal nuts from orange trees 5, 6 or 7 syllables.

Lol. Yeah, that one's a brain teaser. I purposely avoid words that are confusing like that. Ha ha. Thank you for the great review, Pantygynt. I really appreciate the stars, my friend. I hope you have a great weekend.

I hate syllable count restrictions anyway. What is wrong with classical metre? It suits the English language better too. Leave syllable counts to the French. Classical metre does not suit their language.
reply by the author on 01-Aug-2020
lol. My favorite meter form is a sonnet.
I love iambic meter. But too many people get that wrong, too. But that's a whole other lesson. lol
reply by Pantygynt on 01-Aug-2020
Iambic metre fits the natural rhythms of the English language so well, which is why it enjoyed and still enjoys popularity wherever English is spoken.

...big words like 'before'... HAHAHA!! This is hilarious and also highly technical at the same time. Maybe you should consider starting a series of help files and submitting them to Tom so he could program them into one of the menu bars so this place could actually have some normal website guidance. Then again, monkeys might fly out of my butt. You had to be laughing your ass off while you were writing this. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE SOOOOO NEEDED. For the life of me I can't figure out how people get syllable counts wrong for some of these prompts. Or they can't count the words required or the number of lines the rules ask for. This is very well written and easy to read and follow. Plus it is so funny. I think you should continue with these lessons. Maybe the next entry could be "Make Some Damn Sense." Your .gif is also hilarious. Very well done, dude! LS

Thank you so much for the fantastic review and massive sixer, Lynda. Yeah, I had a good laugh writing this. lol A couple drinks will do that. Once I came across this .gif I just had to use it. I'm glad you had a chuckle at this silliness. Yes, this site could offer a little more help than simple Q&A. Again, thank you Lynda.

Funny. This would appeal to teenagers as well. I like the idea of counting with one's fingers, and I bet most of us do it that way at least once in a while. Only saw one place where a word might be missing, toward end of this, "If you followed all these steps, you now a piece" seems to lack the word 'have' before a piece.

Thank you so much for the fantastic review and for catching the goof, Crystie. I fixed it. Yes, we all count on our fingers. We might not admit it but we do. Lol. I really appreciate the gracious stars. I'm glad you liked this silliness. Have a wonderful day.
