This is a good memorial poem of those who have given there lives for freedom. I would like to point out there are also mothers and daughters that are buried at Arlington. Be that as it may, look at what their sacrifice has garnered. The thankless mobs in the streets wrecking and looting.
This must give all, pause.

"Their task was to see,
We all remain free,
For the freedom they treasure,
They gave their last full measure."

This two lines stacked with me :"For the freedom they treasure,

They gave their last full measure." I had a grand grand dad that participate in both WW's, and the horror he described left me speechless. He never said that he would make a different choice if he was given a chance. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

What a lovely tribute to those that gave their lives for our freedom.
The poem flows and connects well. The rhyming scheme is great and
adds to the flow of this read. The artwork is perfect and compliments
these words.

Wonderful poem, very touching and very real. It is so true, what you mention in your author's notes, about every day being Memorial Day. Many just think of it as a holiday from work or school, and not the important day it is. Well-written poem, good rhyme pattern, and simple, concise wording.

What a meaningful, well rhymed poem. I can strongly relate to it as I was an army wife in another part of the world where soldiers never stopped to question their actions. They too were intent on keeping us free.

Absolutely such truth in the words of your poem. Every true soldier would without a doubt die for his country in defending our freedoms. Thank you for sharing this with us and good luck in the contest.

It is amazing how the military does seem to 'recruit' families and generations. An honorable ambition!

I believe you have met all of the requirements of this contest: Write a poem, any type, about the members of the military present and past.

Best of luck with the "In Their Memory" writing contest.

A period after Arlington?

I'm thinking ... you dont' need a comma after (see)

"Their task was to see
We all remain free,

I'd rethink some of the other commas as well. Kind of odd punctuation.

I do like the words, the sentiment! I've been to Arlington twice - I have an Uncle buried there.

the poetry mechanisms were fine - what I missed was that the humanity and individualism of the father brother son (mother, sister, daughter?) was turned into a cliche. not sure people in a war die with pleasure.

So sad some lives are lost for others. What brave men can do. And the woman that watch them leave. I don't believe in war because killing is not right; the other side are victims too. It is the politics that should rot not the people!
