A Soldier's Measure

Hello, anonymous,

A fine entry for the In Their Memory writing prompt contest. It's a good homage to our veterans. Nice presentation.

I'n a Vietnam veteran and thought these lines were profound: They are not alone,
In this Garden of Stone,
Their ages are froze,
As they lay row by rows

But I have to disagree with this: They gave with pleasure, Most were drafted for Vietnam. I lost a classmate six months out of high school. War is never a good thing for the young.

Thank you for your service. I served with a lot of Vietnam guys, I learned a lot from them that probably kept me alive later on in Desert Storm. I changed out that pleasure line if you?d care to take a look.

You didnʻt have to do that. I was just expressing my opinion.

No I got a lot of push back for using pleasure. I wrote this in a hurry last night, once I looked at it I had a better idea for it.

Best of luck with your "In Their Memory" prompt entry. "They are not alone in this garden of stone" is an unfortunate truth. Been to Arlington many times, have family members there. Thanks for your poem to those who gave all. Best regards.

Your descriptive, sincere poem pays a rousing tribute to soldiers of the past. I gave a 4 because of errors: (1) froze should be frozen. (2) lay should be lie (3) know should be knew.

A very well-written poem and tribute to the soldiers that sacrificed their lives generation after generation paying the highest price for the freedom of their country and its people.

Hello author. May i say this is a very inspiring piece of poetry. You get the point across that so many so-called Americans never fathom. tht our men gave their lives fighting for all of us. I am a U.S. Marine of eight years active duty. Semper fi

(One line I totally disagree with. It is good for the rhyming but not really true, I believe. Here: "They gave with pleasure," Not really.

Perhaps a different word here. Thanks for sharing. :) Bob

Thank you for your service. I understand that pleasure wasn?t the right word and went back and changed it if you?d care to take a look.

You have paid tribute to these hero's in this well written poem. I like how well it rhymes, but I mostly like the fact that you included all servicemen and women from every decade. Best of luck in the contest.

That is what they did then, and what they are still doing now. Your poem is a lovely tribute to all those who gave their lives for our freedom. We owe them a great debt. This is a wonderful contest entry, and I wish you the best of luck! :)) Sandra xxx
