Excellent short story. Love is blind too. I know from far too much experience.
I can't seem to write short fiction only novels.
It's nice to see others who can write short things.

as someone who has cats and often find myself giving them priority over our household, I can relate to this poem. my relationship however is strong. (but I do nap with a cat on my shoulder instead of my guy and will sometimes sleep separately if my cat wants to snuggle). Filing separately does nail it; how these furry friends do run your lives. good job!

Congratulations, Iza, on a well deserved win! I love cats, and I could understand a couple staying together because of them. You did well finding that gorgeous photo, as well, their little faces are so sweet! Well done!! :)) Sandra xx

I am buying into the idea that you are married with two cats, so I will refer to "you and your husband" although that may be a construct for the poem.
As I interpret your poem, you and your husband might choose to divorce, but you cannot agree to separate the cats as "splitting up property." I think that is an excuse for two people staying together because they really do love each other, but don't want to the hard work of resolving differences. It's easier to say, "We're staying together for the sake of the cats." I don't think you can equate love with justice, but the cats do win. Because love wins.

Do you mean 'cat's lives matter' lol. This is a very cute little 50 word story. I enjoyed reading it. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Best wishes. Jen.

As a cat lover this really appeals - putting the pets first is a sacrifice of your own happiness. Your story is a very amusing courtship and marriage in a nutshell, with a dark edge of a less than perfect relationship... even if spoken in jest.

hi
how very true and wise ... cats know they purpose in life is to control all things around them: objects, entities and even mere human slaves.

This is a great tongue-in-cheek humorous account. Underneath it the reader may see a very sad situation that has developed. Then the debate can come in with who should get the cat or is the cat's happiness more important than the individual's. Well thought out.

I have heard of staying together for the kids... but for the cats? Guess, if you think about it, it makes as much sense?
Enjoyed the read. And the philosophical debate that this reading could cause!
Best of luck in the 50 Word Story writing contest.

This was a strong entry into the contest and I think it should do well, it's got a whimsical touch to it that makes it stand out. Best of luck and thanks for sharing. Later daze.
