Hello Liz... you have made my day with your thoughts on Rebellious September. I am delighted you like it and the personification that was so prevalent. It was fun to try to write from that point of view. Thank you so much! Hugs!

Sugarray,
I must admit to flashes of jealously on behalf of September, my birth month.
Yes, both September and I share a rebellious spirit..
Yes, September and I share a hope that the we will lead the parade (Autumnal or otherwise)
and puce colored array!!!!!! Puce colored array...well I think not!
Need you be reminded that September's stone is the beautiful sapphire!
Oh darn! ...Oh dear! ....Oh changing seasons!
No matter how much September and I dream of being the premiere season all year long.....it will never come to pass.
Sugarray....

Gotta tell ya, Melissa, I absolutely LOVE the artwork, and of course that is only the start of this lovely verse. I believe the amphibrach metre is exactly the one to use to illustrate the changing of the guard, because summer isn't exactly excited to let go of her thrills, and neither are we.

A superb poem that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and reviewing. :))

Well, Melissa - this so deserves a six, my lady, but I've none in my quiver... You've so rhythmically painted the perfect picture of peace in metaphor and in actuality -- love it! ;) Thanx so much for sharing that vision on this 'gloomy' day! ;) Yvette

This is one of the best rhyming poems for this contest that i have read so far. So descriptive, you can just see the petulant child September holding out, but as we all know, autumn will have its day. Best of luck in the contest.

Melissa,
This group of abcb quatrains uses imagery and personification well.
This describes the storms of this well for the east coast. I with the west coast could get some of that rain.
The picture shows the vibrancy of Summer with the finch and the decaying for the fall with flower.
Keep writing, and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Joan

Hi Melissa,
I enjoyed your poem about a brave, but foolish, September. She was clinging to Summer's coattails, ignoring October sitting by the fence with his own spectacular colors. All the while, Mother Nature is getting a big kick out of their horseplay.
So many nice lines, but my favorite is...
"Amidst all the fuss, Mother Nature sat watching
amused at September's rebellious façade.
She knew all the while that the seasons were changing
and Autumn would lead in the Grand Promenade."
The rhythm is galloping. A pleasure to read.
Right this minute, we are being slapped with a tropical storm. But thankfully, we don't live on the east coast of Nova Scotia. Teddy is treating Halifax to quite a display. Not so bad here in Saint John, New Brunswick.
"A southern breeze bellowed midst drenching deluges,
with inches of flooding from wild hurricanes." ... It's the time of year for hurricanes. We just have to hope we don't get nailed with a big one. They collide with Florida, Texas and Louisiana, and often work their way up the east coast to our Atlantic provinces every fall.
Nicely penned, Melissa!
Hugs,
Kimbob

This is a lovely poem Melissa September has really been
strange this year. Cold and hot days taking turns and many cloudy days here in Nevada. Hopefully the change in seasons will slow the virus down. This poem should do well in the contest. Nancy:)
