I've only been a member of this site for a short time but this poem is one my very favorites.
I think some word selection could be better but that is not a major thing.
What your poem has throughout is a strong heart and a strong mind. And I was impressed with the lack of "poor me attitude" that you often see in writing when folks have gone through so much.
I will never think of the word "tie" again in the same way. You have changed me with your writing.

I liked your creative use of "ties" from that article of clothing to ways of being connected and you use "ties" in the plural form of words like "possibilities" and "insanities." Lots of word fun in your poem!
