This poem deserves to win because it creatively paints a picture of jealousy's destruction. The author relates the emotion to death by using the words "decay", "shroud", "worm-eaten", and "grave". I found this appropriate since jealousy is often used interchangeably with envy, one of the seven deadly sins. Additionally, the poem addresses not only the affect jealousy has on the person who experiences it but also the affect on those around them.
