Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A dream turns into a nightmare

REM State

REM  State 

delivers unpredictable sequels.
Pastoral meadow
pansies swaying in lukewarm wafts,
benign family outing,
hotdogs and burgers sizzling on gridiron,
mellow lover’s rendezvous
tender kisses planted on eyelids.
She blinks and then it happens.
The scenes are constant
but are now coated
with a black liquescent drizzle.
Her eyes smart with raw fear
as an ebony deluge splat,
splat in clumps,
enshrouding all forms.
Her lips spread in mute protest.
She gags on blackness.
Pushing forward consciously
for acknowledgement,
this isn’t reality.
She awakens,
shaken,
purged of glutinous midnight grime.
