History's conundrum

by royowen

Is man's history a scrapbook, some pages writ on scrolls,
does truthfulness command our past, lives lost in monstrous tolls?
But time is still a mystery, mistakes, and futile games
a maze we write in people's blood, on epitaphs with names,

To me it is a junkyard's note, in words, some truth, some lies.
Perhaps they are some documents of fantasy's despised.
As history's by word of mouth then scribed in anecdotes,
how can we know, and merely trust the past's recorded notes?

Did Bonaparte exist in truth and were those battles fought.
and are they truth or just a sketch of biased thought they've caught?
There's no desire to criticise, but man sees through self's lens
for there are limits to what's seen, the eyes see what light bends.

Did Ghengis Kahn indeed exist, and did he rape known Earth,
but like some tyrants, came and went, some say judged man's true worth.
I've mused on these thoughts day and night, but questions still remain,
do men know truth in perfect pitch, and hear its sweet refrain?

But I know this, that Lord Jesus came, to still a wayward ship,
to rescue man, sin's gap to span, from Satan's hand to rip.
I we have faith, believe that God has written time's decree,
He climbed death's hill, my sin to still, and died to set us free.

I have thought and pondered on mans written history, and wondered how it was recorded, where it came from, from what mouths or notes it was written, and is it indeed the absolute truth? And do we accept it without question, and do we choose to believe that historians write it down without being eye witnesses, or at least, believe those that reported it? I cannot answer that, I simply do not know.
So neither we, nor they that scribed the past are truly witnesses. Most legends, I would imagine, are born of hearsay, innuendo and some embellished facts.
We were not there so why believe? But we do, and have little choice, otherwise there is nothing better. Only God knows the absolute truth!

I was going to include the biblical record of Christs life, death and resurrection, but somehow I would only sully what I believe with all my heart with this account that I have written, because it is counter to these same questions I pose with history, which I believe, was written by the perfect eye witness of the Holy Spirit, who is perfect in truth and in witness, it would unlikely to be believed by the secular world. Some actually believe it to be myth, that is their choice of course. I did not come by my belief by reading the bible, it came by an inner knowledge, that merely came completely by an inner source, I could give you a cliched definition, but will only say I went from unbelief to belief, and the bible just confirmed that knowledge. It is/was the greatest single act of love ever committed.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He His only begotten Son, that whomsoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
