She wears a pretty MASK.

Miss THANG

by Sandra Nelms-Ludwig

Short skirt and shapely legs,

turning men's and women's heads.

Pretty lady.

No, but attractive and she knows it.

She exudes; 'I'm a hell of a woman persona'

mixed with a crass, comedic, your Mama joke kinda flair.

It's as if she's playing the dirty dozen

and there's a thirteenth joke that ain't too funny.

However, she doesn't let on that she knows

and gives a believable impression that if she did she wouldn't care,

'cause it's still her joke.

She's brassy, percussive loud,

especially if she's angered.

It doesn't take much for her to shake her layered abuse

into shared space.

It's only in privacy

wrapped in silence

that she sometimes thinks about

poor choices made in slowly, hardening

clumps of uncertainty

She lacks the know-how

to smooth them out.

It's these times

when she eats bags of gummy bears

and gnaws absent-mindedly on her real fingernails.

Nails and regrets, which you or I will never see

'cause she's perpetually disguising them

with designed acrylic fake coverings.

Expect no less.

Miss Thang.
