Good neighbours

Judy and Bill had recently moved.

They related well with their new neighbours, who’d moved in the previous year.

One evening, Judy answered the doorbell and spoke for a few minutes.

“Who was that?” enquired Bill.

“A pleasant young man looking for our neighbours. He’d gone to their previous home. The occupants told him that they'd moved to this street, but didn’t know the number.

He also asked about their daughter Michelle. That would be Shelley! She lives there too. You’ve probably seen her, a lovely young lady, very quiet. Apparently they were at college together but had lost touch. He’d heard that Michelle’s marriage had broken down, as has his, so he thought he’d reconnect.

I told him they were right next door! Maybe a romance will blossom!”

The following morning Judy and Bill were horrified by police activity next door.

Michelle had been brutally murdered by her ex-husband.

"Shelley" is a pet name or nickname for "Michelle". She would have chosen to revert to that when she moved back home with her parents.
