Don't take it for granted

A chapter in the book Lessons Learned and Spiritual

Happy and Free

by Debi Pick Marquette

If I would have to choose one word

A happy one that I preferred

My happy word would have to be

The one that says my life is Free

Our marriage not arranged or planned

He asked my father for my hand

Together half a century

We are still happy and still Free

My children had a happy home

A normal life till time to roam

And then they raised their own to be

Just happy kids whose lives are Free

I will stand up for what I want

I’ll choose my favorite restaurant

To walk as far as I can see

And do it all, 'cause I am Free

We go to church of our own choice

And then come home and still rejoice

We praise our God on bended knee

Yes, to the one who keeps us Free

Our nation isn't quite the same

This poem is not the place to blame

No race, religion has to flee

So thankful that we all are Free

The times we had to go to war

We live what they were fighting for

To all who fought for our country

So many thanks that we are Free

As I look back at my whole life

Still mother, grandma, friend and wife

I'm happy, blessed and filled with glee

I thank my Lord, my life was Free
