Please help me celebrate my favorite author, Dr Seuss

I've always loved his books, better than Tales of Mother Goose

So Theodor Seuss Geisel was his real and legal name

And Springfield, Massachusetts is from whence my hero came 



His 1937 treat, " I saw it on Mulberry Street"

It took the heat, some would delete, and ended up in the hot seat



In WWI he sold war bonds, sold more than any scout

T. Roosevelt was to give him a medal, but ran out 

And there was no apology; they were so impolite

So the remainder of his life, he had severe stage fright



"Cat in the Hat," who was a brat, and in the house played ball and bat

When kids saw that, they stopped him stat, they showed him the unwelcome mat



He worked as Editor in Chief; one day he went berserk 

Was prohibition time, and he was drunk and fired at work

'Twas WWII, when this man drew, 400 plus Cartoons

And they were mostly of the evil Hitler and his goons



The green ole Grinch, who'd bite and pinch, if all you had left was an inch

And it's a cinch for him to winch an innocent dear Whoville finch



He had invented a new word, and it would be the "Nerd"  

He used it in his book, of zoos, some thought it was absurd

Because of him, March 2nd, every year is reading day

And I believe he'd like to be remembered in that way 



And "If I Ran the Zoo" was new,  and was a clue, that he could do

His 1950 book was true, with boy named who? Gerald McGrew



He wrote 45 children's books, but six are out of reach

Could it be we're too touchy or are they not good to teach

Sometimes it's how we look at things; how differently we see

I am a Dr Seuss groupie, and I will always be



 "Green eggs and Ham" said Sam I am, and he would get with the program
