What Did I Come in Here For

by Debi Pick Marquette

I walk into a room to find

Whatever I had on my mind

And as I scratch my head a while

I wonder, have I gone senile

It's happening much more and more

So, what did I come in here for?

I knew it in the other room

My memory needs to resume

My thoughts are all starting to sink

Just what it was, I cannot think

I open every cupboard door

Now, what did I come in here for?

Then I will go back and retrace

Right where I was in the first place

And I'll remember, but I bet

That I will once again forget

I think so hard my brain is sore

And, what did I come in here for?

So laugh and dance; let your heart pour

Then make sure each day you restore

My writing helps my mind to soar

My family and friends are core

My grandchildren that I adore

Know they are what I am here for!
