A story about a Fan story friend

Safe from Harm

by Jesse James Doty

During the current wildfires in So Cal I have been aware of a friend who is in danger from these fires. She has been a tireless crusader bravely protecting her family from the threat of evacuation from her home.

She is a wonderful person and a devoted mentor to all who come in contact with her as a teacher and a friend. She is an integral part of Fanstory and teaches classes in Japanese poetry as well as posts a poem every day. We all know her as Gypsy Blue Rose, yet to me, she will always be a loyal and dedicated friend known as MariVal.

While others are vying for a spot on the ranks, she is in dire straights as the So Cal fires rage around her home and family. I check in with her every day and she shares her fears about when and if she will need to evacuate her home. It is the waiting that is hardest for her to deal with.

She has packed a to-go bag and has a plan for where she and her family will move temporarily. She is grateful her eldest daughter has a home up north where they can stay for a while. My heart aches for her and her extended family who live with her.

With fortitude and bravery, she is facing one of the worst nightmares imaginable. Let’s show how much we care about people who are going through trying times such as the wildfires in So Cal. We, who are in the safety and comfort of our homes need to remember, that this could happen to any of us at any time.
