A gathering of like-minded people
From all walks of life
by Jesse James Doty
They came from all walks of life. An elderly gentleman stood holding up a sign that said, “Hands Off my VA!” A young person trucked on by gladly holding a sign that said, “Trans Rights!”
There were at least four people standing proudly with walkers representing disability rights. Two motorized wheelchairs whizzed by. Several children stood by their parents. Both were holding signs, and their thumbs up to the people who were driving by in their vehicles.
Crowds lined both sides of the streets for multiple blocks. This time, liberals, moderates, and conservatives held hands and sang songs such as Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land.”
There was room for everyone, and they inclusively gave pride, hope, and resilience to those at the rally. This included those who drove by and witnessed the bravery it took to stand up and be counted. We deserve our democracy back! Empowered once again, I will attend every protest rally that comes my way.
