Major Jake Carroll captured by enemy.
I crumbled the telegram.
"Let me die."
"I won't."
"You can't fix my broken heart."
"Let me try."
The next day, I awoke.
"Your operation went well."
I frowned. "My heart won't mend."
"Maybe."
Jake opened the door.
Life flowed into my healed heart.
