A Thread of Hope
by Begin Again
"Help me." His whisper tortured her.
Her lips trembled. A tear rolled down her pale cheek. She turned away, unable to look into his eyes.
"I'm tired. I can't do this anymore." His emaciated body shivered.
"Just a while longer, Jake. The doctor said-"
"If you love me-"
"Please don't. You're my life. I can't do this," she whimpered.
His eyes closed. An agonizing moan filled the silent void.
"Give me the pills and leave. That's all I ask."
She lay her lips against his cheek. "I'm sorry."
The hospital door flew open.
The doctor smiled, "We have a donor."
