My Warrior Sleeps

Like badges of honor, his frail arms bore dark purple bruises. His breath was raspy. His skin was feverish. His tired eyes no longer sparkled with mischief.
His wife's eyes glistened as they met his. Whispering "I love you," she squeezed his hand. "It's going to be all right."
Slowly, his parched lips mouthed, "I love you."
The room turned cold. Ignoring her tears, she kissed him as her mighty warrior slipped away.
Life would never be all right again.

After being away from FanStory for many years, this is my first posting. I never lost my love for writing, but the roads I traveled prevented me from being able to follow my dreams. My husband always wanted me to return to my passion. This story is dedicated to him and our love.
