Wow, Terry, you trying to stir up the pot?? You're from Texas, for goodness sake.
In reference to your last line, you did not say whether your a closet, believer, non believer, whatever, but you did say you never heard of the Power of Popcorn. I like to read between the lines.
However, you have a powerful point about tolerance, and I think it was well made.
Take care, Neighbor. I'll send you a horned toad message one day.

I consider myself a Christian and my late husband was an agnostic. We got along beautifully because we respected each other's viewpoint. I prefer separation of church from politics and the government staying out of religion. I suppose the big question is what would Jesus do? Your essay is well written and has some excellent points.

I enjoyed reading this contest entry. I do believe politics needs to stay out of the churches and I believe everybody has the right to believe as they choose or choose not to believe. But I also believe whatever one chooses they have no right to impress it upon others. Good luck with the contest.

In Texas we are known for being independent thinkers. But over the years we have also raised a bunch of sheep. It happened around the time Lyndon took office. Up till then we were a democratic state. But Lyndon stepped over the line with the church people and gave basic human rights to our black citizens. The next election, Texas was Republican. Things have been downhill in the brainy department ever since, Karen

I'll certainly add mine.

Thank you. Karen

I got to tell you I looked at your last review of mine, and started laughing at the "brainy department". I think we need that more than DOGE!

If the efficiency department needs $40 million, how effiencent can it be?

This piece is a sharp, witty, and thought-provoking commentary on religious freedom and the intersection of faith and government. With a conversational, self-aware tone, the author navigates the complexities of personal belief, public reaction, and the fine line between religious expression and governmental endorsement. The humor-especially the recurring references to West Texas, horned toads, and popcorn-keeps the piece engaging while reinforcing its central argument.
Well done and good luck.

Thank you for the excellent review. As usual, you get it. Terry.

I fully agree with your cleverly rambling rant. We should all be free to express our faith as appropriate (which means, with no violence against others for their faith, and no forceful intimidation of any kind) - or to refrain from faith if we so choose. I don't believe any government should have the right to impose a set of beliefs or behaviours on anyone. One can't force a person to become a Christian or indded a member of any faith. Freedom of choice, so long as others are respected and not harmed should be free from any political intervention.

Thank you, Wendy, you had a good observation. I do think a "Rant" does ramble. It's sort of like...and one more thing!

I thought this was well written. I think you do a wonderful job of sharing your thoughts. Your voice is strong. It's thought provoking. And the humor keeps it light despite the topic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts so candidly!

Oy, Terry, your posts always frustrate the living you-know-what out of me. That's why this is the last one I'm ever going to review. I'd feel like a review whore, though, if I took your money for a review and told you this was hilarious and plucky and clever. Instead, I feel it starts out with SUCH great potential. I loved the concept and the subject, and I was very interested in what you were going to say. But then it sidetracked itself with all the tangents: popcorn, popcorn in the closet, horned toads, dyslexia. Oy!! The teacher in me wants to tell you stop running all over the room, sit in your seat and stay on task! But instead, I'm just going to go join the popcorn party in the closet and try to recover from the frustration of it all.

Rachelle, this is a rant. A rant can ramble. All of the rambling was on purpose. If you don't like the writing, well so be it.
-
I don't know, Terry; I think if rants "ramble," people lose interest in the point that's attempting to be made. I always prefer tight, cogent writing. But to each his or her own, I guess.
Comment from Debi Pick Marquette
The title and the beginning maybe got a few upset, but I saw straight through the humor of your well written rant. I know I am one who tells how I feel about the love of Jesus, but as far as religion, I don't believe in it. I only speak of my faith. That way I am not pulled down by politics or anyone telling me what stripes I need to follow or what I have to do.
Gosh, this is a funny rant and you did a great job of trying to confuse us, which is exactly what you wanted to do. So you kept us guessing and now I am wondering about something. How high is a horned toad in West Texas? I am guessing since everything is big in Texas about the size of my old golden retriever? LOL
Great Rant, Terry. I really enjoyed it. It was lots of fun! Virtual Six, my friend.
Love, Debi

Debi, thanks for the review. You made a good point I missed. Religion is politics. And politics sometimes becomes religion.

What is your choice of drink tonight? Tequila, Jackie D or a glass of homogenized? I will only say I have my hope that there is a world beyond mortality, and if I am wrong, so be it, for it makes me feel as good if not better than those who believe there isn't I suppose, or that they'll come back as a cow or a pine cone or whatever.

Thanks, Tom. I wonder if we can come back as a bottle of bourbon.

Of all the booze there is to choose that was my choice when I indulged before setting aside the bottle in '83. I also stopped paying interest on credit cars, and pay-for-view teevee, book clubs, and ESPN, and now I am a millionaire having as little fun as I can.
