This is such a lovely story and the imagery evokes all kinds of memories of the people in my life who were "story tellers." The old men who sat on benches in front of the general stores in my hometown were story tellers. I think the world needs these storytellers as much as they did in the past. They hold information not found on the Internet or television. Good luck win the contest.

Mary, thanks for taking the time to review my poem. I am glad you found it enjoyable and it evoked memories of your own storytellers. I had some as well. Yes the world still does needs them. Cheers

Yep. Isn't there a quote about let your old men see visions and your young men dream dreams? The concept is a nice one to write on and you do so very well. Nice work. I wouldn't mind if you added a color for the background to sort of highlight the verse.

Hi Barry,
Wow, this is perfect! Love this excellently written poem with exceptional rhyme and meter. Enjoyed reading about this delightful storyteller as his eyes light up as his tales grow larger than life with each retelling.
I knew a couple of old men that sat on southern porches, pipe smoking as they talked...their pipe smoke circling in the damp night air...
I could hear the crickets too as I read your lilting words :))
Wonderful entry and good luck in the contest with your beautiful poem.
Always,
Senyai

Senyai , Thanks for taking the time to review my poem and I am so glad you enjoyed it. Yes the pipe smoking is something now not so prominent but the story tellers are still around.
Take care

Yes, I do miss my father?s pipe aroma wafting through his study at Christmas time especially his cherry tobacco :))

This poem has great imagery and smooth flow. It shows an old man that wants to share his life with other people. Maybe those people will find some wisdom in his words and he will be that much happier for a time.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.

Six stars for you, Barry. This moistened my eyes. Speaking of that, please leave out the "the" in that line. Those last two lines really put the finishing touch to this great poem. A rare six stars from me.

A really fantastic poem. It flowed beautifully and the rhyme was spot on. The imagery was clear and it was great to get to know (even for a short while) the storyteller and share in the joy that reminiscing brings him.
