wow. This is a blast from the past! I can tell you worked hard on the research for his one and I learned things i never knew about her. I didn't know of all her health issues especially the double mastectomy. She was a funny lady and a unique entertainer. Enjoyed this.

I learned quite a bit I did not know. But, I really had to dig, and some stuff was contrary. But she is universally loved. Thanks for the read. And those lovely sixes. Karen

What an interesting woman! I'd never heard of her, but just checked out here research center in London. It's famous! It's strange that she isn't better known given all the awards she received and all the famous people she worked alongside with. I'm going to Google her and see if there is a sketch I can watch.
Going back to the first part, I was really shocked that Sophie Tucker had to blacken her face because they thought she was too ugly to be a white woman! What a cheak!! This was a great first biography, Karen. I really enjoyed it. Well done. :) Sandra xxx

What a wonderful post, Karen. I remember sitting with my parents and watching the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw on television. She had that awesome smile and a way of making your spirits laugh and soar...even a kid. You did a great job of sharing a slice of history.
I noticed a few glitches but sped right past at first because the story held my attention. Here's a couple of them toward the end....

who flied planes
He owned and flied (flew)
She a great deal
Mount hope

Thanks for the read and edits. I corrected, and I did find another. I must have reviewed this story more than two dozen times. How do I miss stuff? :-0

This is a very well written biography about many pearl, and I very much enjoyed listening to it. There were a lot of facts that I did not know about her. I did not know that she had had strokes and that she eventually died of a massive stroke. I did not know of her educational background or any of the things that she did. This is a wonderful piece and you have done her a very big honor by featuring her and this. Just a little sidenote when I did a stand-up comedy routine in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1996 I took on the persona of many pearl with a price tag hanging from my head. I enjoyed doing that, but I am nowhere near the talent of many pearl. Patricia.

Thanks for the read and sweet comments. Some of the information was news to me as well. I never knew she had cancer. Or, that she donated e vrything to the search for a cure. Karen

Not many people knew the real Sarah Ophelia Colley Conner. Or, Minnie Pearl either. She had a lot of close friends, but her circle was close. She was a hoot. Thanks for the read. Karen

I, of course, had heard of Minnie Pearl. And remember seeing her on some old show back in the day (probably Hee Haw). I just remember her being the goofy old lady with the hat and the price tags.
But your story opens up a whole new side of Minnie Pearl that is fascinating. What a great career. Especially in a time when women weren't given the same opportunities as men, not even close. Especially in comedy.
Great work, Karen.

Lots of details and of course, so foreign but it is interesting to know that you get a chance to see what a rich life this person had. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

Well, thank you indeed, Karen.
I always enjoy learning about amazing people I previously never knew.
I had never heard of this woman, I imagine Minnie was mainly a US star of stage and show.
She sounds like an amazing woman and a fantastic role model for modern aspiring comediennes.

Thank you, Karen, for filling me in on the long fun-filled life of Minnie Pearl. She certainly was a hoot! I remember seeing her on the hit television series Hee Haw and loved her character with the price tags still on her clothes and hat she was a funny and lovable comedian. I had no idea she was as famous to so many folks as she was. Thanks for sharing her life filled with awards and career changes that benefited both her and her husband.
You did an outstanding job of writing this tribute to a lesser-known comedian who showed us how it was to be a country girl.
Jesse

Thanks for the six stars, it is my first biography. It was hard work with so little information compared to others. She was little known if you didn't know where to look. Karen

You did a wonderful job of writing a tribute to Minnie Pearl. I would have never known it was your first effort.
Maybe you have found your niche.
    Have a lovely day,

I seem to have many sides to me. First it was learning some new poetry, then I killed men off in various ways. Then Nostalgia grabbed me. How, I seem to be mainly humor. But, every new years I challenge myself to write ina category I haven't done. Last year was a western. It took me to November to do it. This year it was a biography. It only took me to March. It was difficult, so I don't think I will be knocking them out any time soon. Karen
