Very perceptive, Sharon!
I so appreciate the examples and message of your well-crafted poetic offering.
And I share your perspective that
There's many of them, all around,
both men and women everywhere,
inflicting pain, verbal abuse,
without a conscience, they don't care.
And many would be horrified to think they are perceived as "monsters."
Congratulation on your message and winning poem!
fondly,
diane

I like your take on monsters here, that they're not some freaky, alien, mask-wearing being, but right here in our street and even, sometimes, in our homes. Your rhyming quatrains capture well this sad reality of which we should all be aware. Well done and good luck! Debbie

So true. As a teacher I was able to put two separate monsters behind bars. Teachers are mandated reporters of abuse. I hope and pray with the US Education Department upheaval, Monsters in homes with these vulnerable children will still be reported. :(
Extraordinary writing!
Best wishes,
Alex

You're welcome!

Your poem really nails the unsettling truth about the monsters that live among us. I love how you describe them as "having no horns or glowing eyes" which makes it feel even more real. The line "they dwell in shadows, corners dark, but smile bright in light of day" is so chilling! It's a reminder that real monsters don't always look the way we expect them to. Keep up the fantastic work!

You are so right here in your poignant poem, monsters have many guises and we don't always recognise them as monsters to begin with, only when we have encountered their deeds do we feel their wrath. I enjoyed this intuitive poem about the real monsters behind the mask, love Dolly x x x
