I think this is the first part I've read of this, Beth, what a lovely idea! I lost my first husband when my children were still little boys, and we often talk about him. Brian died 35 years ago, but I think it's important to keep him alive in their memories. What you're doing is wonderful. Will you publish it? I'm sure your children will love a copy to keep and pass down to their children and grandchildren. I enjoyed reading this part and had to smile that Don got home before the other boys. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you, Sandra. I'm pleased you read it and I appreciate all your comments. Yes, I am planning to publish it and I would like my four children and three grandchildren to have copies. I think I may have to do two books because I have way too may words for just one.

Now you're talking about my neck of the woods, the Branson area. I live 15 miles outside of Branson. You should see the changes now. It's probably doubled if not tripled in size. It's always hard when one leaves the nest. Especially when they are so far away. The baby is starting school. Sniffle sniffle. Glad you were able to see your son. Your chapter is well-written, very interesting. I look forward to reading more.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. You live in very beautiful country. I've heard a lot of the Nashville Country stars have moved their shows to Branson. I like to go back and see all the changes. I think you may get a bit colder winters there than we have around Chattanooga.

There are, were quite a few here. Not sure what's going to happen after the pandemic. It's 20's and 30's in Jan, Feb. 40's in December.

Well that was quite the scare that Don missed the bus! But how ironic that he ended up back home five hours before the others. Why didn't the other kids say something about Don not being among them? I would have thought he knew all the other kids from Metairie.

What an amazing story with your youngest starting school while one child already leaving the nest! (I was so fooled by your title as I thought it would be Carol but it was Don!) I was a junior in college then. My two girls are like your oldest and youngest. The oldest left for college when the youngest was in 3rd grade. It all goes so fast!

Thank you for the review and comments. Carol won 't be far behind him. As to why the other kids didn't say anything, I imagine it was too early in the morning for them to want to do anything but go back to sleep. Since this was him first time on the bus some may not have realized he would be with them. The seniors might not have even known he was at the school. Not all of the student gone to school with him before. I think maybe only three of four.

More adventures for the Shelby family. You certainly did a lot of traveling. I was not fond of traveling away from home too often. Our big thing was a deer hunt every year, but that was contained within the state of Nevada. I did learn how beautiful the state is with many different landscapes that were appealing. Well done and interesting, Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you for the review and comments. I liked to travel. My husband claimed it was because my parents never took me anywhere when I was growing up. I've only been in Nevada once and i just drove through the corner. It was pretty country.

I enjoy this diary/book of your so much. I look forward to each new post. Your children are growing up so fast and like Don, wanting to make his own decisions.

I could see this boy dropping with weak knees, so typical. We are walking so close with raising our kids. My oldest daughter had to have plastic surgery done from a fall.
Another good one Beth. Glad to see you moving up the ladder.

Thank you so much, Chuck. I'm not sure what ladder I'm moving up, but I still trying to remember those years. I don't them forgotten and I won't my kids to remember them too.

Novel writer ladder. Just keep trash from blowing into your yard. Memories, are priceless. My Cindy fell and cut the corner of her eye and it needed plastic surgery. She is a grandmother now and still not noticeable.

This was still a great read. You have done well and I hope others are enjoying the story as much as I am. Whose photo was that? It went well with the chapter. No spags.

A heart warming 'slice of life' write that confirms what we have come to know. Your love of family. There are one or two typos eg: 'form as opposed to from' but easily fixed. We all do that. DJ

Thank you for the review. I had more typos than one or two but a lot have been corrected already. That one will be hard to find but I will try. I appreciate you.

Dear Beth, I think you learned your lesson. When a child cannot be directly supervised by a parent, they will start to exercise their own free will and preferences, apparently this is what Don did.

Thank you Suzanne. I do appreciate the review and comments. Yes, he was too far from home. The next year he will still go away but to a much closer school.

I am sorry about the loss of your husband.
I think your story is a wonderful way to honor him and your relationship and to give your kids a better idea of who you two were as people as well as parents.

I think your idea of talking to your husband in print, is an excellent one and probably therapeutic for you.
Your story is very accessible to us as readers; it is as if we know you, and to a lesser extent, your kids and your husband. Your writing style is fluid and homey, which makes it fun to read. Nice job.
p.s. In the sixth line of the second paragraph there is a typo in Connie's name. You can change that easily enough. God bless you and yours.
