Oh, BethShelby, my heart when out to you, and your family, as I read about the aftermath of the fire and the added trauma, of the car accident, that Connie endured. Your piece demonstrates how unpredictable (and challenging) life can be. In reading your work I get the impression that you and your family are resilient and loving. Thank you for sharing your memories.

Hooray that you got the unemployment despite that terrible supervisor. (by the way, I'm not sure why this part is in another font : "hearing the case. She said the company had decided to grant me unemployment, and he didn't challenge it. He went back to the company having failed to keep me from getting it."

Oh my goodness! For someone so feeling so bad about the fire, she was quite fearless in using other things like a car. I hope she became a cautious driver!

Thanks for sharing about this part of your life.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. For some reason, every time I copy something to the advanced editor, different paragraphs will come out in a different type font that the one I select. I have change those paragraghs back. I must have missed something. It is showing to be the same but it does looke different.
Connie gave me problems for a while. We will finally come around.

Devastation of house and sundry psyches is excruciatingly depicted. It never ends.

After the fire [and spending=>, HAVING SPENT] one night in the crowded motel room with us, Carol and Glen managed to find another motel

You certainly earned your unemployment checks! I can't believe your mean boss (and his boss) tried to stop you from collecting your benefits. I also had to fight for unemployment benefits on one occasion, but that's a whole other story, maybe for another time.
It's good that your insurance covered the fire damage, but it sounds like it also took a lot of work on your part, and that it was a group effort, on the part of most of the family. Carol and Glen were very helpful to you, even though it wasn't a very enjoyable holiday for any of you, and you had wonderful neighbors, who were willing to hook up the electrical extension cord between your homes.

Then, you had the car accident added onto the problems you already had. God sent His angels once again, protecting your daughter -- and gave you the presence of mind to "yell and gesture like a madwoman," and amazingly, miraculously, you were noticed.

Some suggestions:

Is that an actual picture of Connie? Even if it isn't, you found a very good picture of an upset child in a car.

Thank you so much for the review and comment and error corrections. Than isn't Connie's picture but Carol was amazed that I was able to find one that looked so much like her. Thanks a million for the six stars. I appreciate you.

You're very welcome, dear Beth. You really had so many adventures (and misadventures) with your four children! So, not Connie, but it looks like her -- well done. God bless you and your family. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Wow, Beth, this was some trying years for all you. I'm so sorry about that, but you seemed to cope with it all one way or the other. Connie's little incident can't have helped either. I think I've managed to miss a chapter. I'll have to go back and have a look. Ulla:)))

Thank you so much Ulla. Yes, remembering it, I amazed that we were able to cope as well as we were. I'm glad all that happened when we were a lot younger.

Wow, young Connie could rouse a real storm, it's funny how some folk have a knack of doing this. You've had some trauma in your life Beth. You've obviously been a good mum though, being supportive and good in your endeavours, you've had interesting unemployment rules. Our government has always had social welfare in its hold. Well done, blessings Roy

Thank you for the the review and comments. Connie was a problem for a while. When we work we contribute to unemployment as well as the the company. When we become unemployed we can draw as long as we continue to look for work If too many employs draw the company's contribution rate goes up.

Dear Beth, Oh dear you are now telling me that you have two children that cost you dearly I am so glad that Don was given the contract, so that he could repay you for all the expenses for his Mischief. And it was certainly better to have a family member in the house, than a stranger.

I'm of the opinion that if you plan to have children you should be prepared to put out some cash. They are all expensive. Back 100 years ago they children were an asset because they had to start working young. Not they are an expense. Thanks for a great review
