Good story and well-written. I could have warned you about a spitz. It's interesting how your family found new friends. I hope you got that backyard fenced with that dog around. Thanks for another glimpse into your family's life.

Little Kokomo looks far too cute to be mean and temperamental to others. It's sad when things out of our control happen to our furbabies and we can't possibly help them. It appears he did have a long life though. Smiles to you and Kokomo!

He was a bit of a looney-tune. I guess he was happy but he sure enjoyed scaring people. Looks can be deceiving. LOL

Hi Beth. This is the first time that I've read any of this book you are writing. It caught my attention because the title is the same as my current novel chapter! :)

Writing our memoirs for our family to enjoy is a wonderful idea. You seem to have lots to tell. I'd like to be able to visualize the characters better, perhaps by use of some dialogue and actions.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my chapter. Some of my chapters do contain dialogue and some contain current events. I realize people like dialogue and like to use it, but since the whole book is dialogue in the sense that I'm speaking to my deceased husband, it seems a little weird to use it too often.
I hope you stop by again.

Yes, Spitz dogs can be vicious and over protective. Not a good pet for children. Your new home sounds great. Lots of room for a family to grow. I always wanted a two story Victorian house so my kids and their families could all visit at once. That never happened, but they all moved to Ely after we did so no problem. Well done. Nancy:)

Thanks so much Nancy. Those dogs look sweet but they aren't. I would never get another one, although I think this one might have been crazier than most.

He looks gorgeous! It's hard to imagine him terrorizing your visitors. But, you never mentioned how he got on with the cats. Or did they stay apart? This is another lovely part, Beth, the snow was something else! We've never had snow like that. The only bit we had this year disappeared within hours. I can just imagine you on garbage-can lids, sliding down the iced road. Lol. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Thank you for the review. I did keep the dog and cars apart. I think this dogs problem was with people rather than other animals. We've not had snow this year but it may be coming yet.

Beth, as usual, I really enjoy reading your stories and think it's such an awesome idea! It sounds like the move was an adventure with a 10-inch snowfall you had never seen before. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no! Kokomo was a terror! Too bad, I really love dogs and I love the name -- that Beach Boys song is so nice and breezy. But unfortunately, a very small percentage of dogs have very bad temperaments. Maybe you're right about the illness, but it sounds as though genetics may have also been a factor, considering the behavior of the group of dogs they were bred from. Poor Evan got a nasty bite out of the bargain!

You may want to remind the reader who Kimberly was, the first time you refer to her in this chapter. I didn't remember her from the previous chapter (until you later mentioned Jane, the Realtor) and for some reason I thought she might be one of your next-door Mormons. But, on the other hand, if this is going to all be in one book, chances are that your readers won't be reading only one or two chapters a week, like I am. So maybe I'm wrong about this. If no one else mentions it, maybe you can leave it be.

It's a wee bit surprising that Christy was a little jealous of Kimberly, but of course, I haven't spent much time around twins! Especially for opposite-sex twins, getting accustomed to a twin's girlfriend or boyfriend might not be easy. I understand that twins share a very special bond, even when they're fraternal. My half-sister Tricia has twin girls, age 12, but they're out in Montana, and I haven't seen them since they were in diapers -- just pictures, videos and phone calls.

Here are the errors I found, with my usual list of suggestions:

It must have been lovely to have such a large house. You must have had some very sweet memories there -- except for the furry little monster, who actually lived to be 18!

Normally there is no cure for the sickness but yours seemed to be a miracle. Speaking of snow, we are getting our share as I type here in Arkansas.
Sorry to be so late in reviewing.
Good one Beth.

Oh dear! What lot of work you went through for your pets. I don't think I could handle a dog like that. The only dog we had that would snap at people was more of a guard dog but she was really good with us.
I guess you'll let us know more about Connie in the next post.

Thank you for the review and comments. One the backyard was fenced, he could scare people but he couldn't get to them. He was an interesting dog.
