A melancholy remembrance of someone lost to war here and the wave of grief comes whenever we recall those memories, an emotional write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Hi, Gypsy.
This is an excellent Tanka poem. It is about heartache and our fragile footprints--we only have a short time to put our mark on the world.
Nice presentation, Gypsy. Thank you for the informative author's notes. Good luck.
Blessings,
Cindy

You know I know you have a way with words so I daringly need to ask why "red" poppies instead of the orange the second line is colored with? ....................................

Gypsy, this is gorgeous. I recognize your touch of a master. The imagery, visuals and artistic presentation of your tanka hit the roof. I love red poppies and this was a treat for me.

Just beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful presentation. The Different colours for the fonts on the black background looks amazing. The photo poppies in Flanders fields compliments your poem. Beautifully done.

I'm curious why Tanka poems are mostly written by women. I doubt there's an answer, just curious. Anyway, I enjoyed this complete poetic package. The field of poppies is beautiful as is your poem and the way you used the colored font.

I think women are more atune to their feelings and passion. Tanka is all about that.

With haiku it's different. Haiku master, Matsuo Basho was the creator of haiku and is considered the best. Men are visual creatures. (*+*)

Why don't you join our clubs, you learn alot and there's no requirement. You only write when you want to and you are welcomed to send me drafts for feedback before you post.

Once when I tried poetry I was told it read like a grocery list. I have only attempted it a few times since, but I feel they read like a child wrote it.

It's important to join the first two lines grammatically so the poem flows better. At end of the second line you add a dash to pause before the satori (enlightens, aha! Moment)

    For example

    LIKE A LIST.....

    sunlight through the trees
    creek meanders around rocks
    smooth summer song

    CONNECTED....

    sunlight through the trees
shines on creek and smooth rocks --
    summer song

    Thank you!

    Gypsy

Haiku don't have to be 5-7-5 because English syllables are different than
    Japanese syllables

Beautifully worded Tanka. There is an elegant sadness about this poem. It reminds me of D-Day and all the soldiers who gave their lives at Normandy. The D-Day Memorial is in my hometown because we lost the most soldiers that day per capita. Thanks for sharing. Wonderful presentation per usual.

I didn't know that, thank you. The poem applies to any kind of grief. I'm happy you could relate.

This is beautiful poem that conjures up many memories of beach walks, but also contains a lot of broken hearted emotion - well done.
I love the idea of hourglass sand and the colour changes in the font add just a bit extra too. You write excellent Haiku's and Tanka's.

I enjoyed reading your poem, made more interesting visually with a black background, bed of flowers and colorful fonts. Tanka is also one poetical form I do enjoy reading and the poet did it well. Thanks for sharing.
