I can't think of anything I won't eat, but there are a few things I prefer not to eat. My family wasn't at all picky and none of my boys were picky, but...my two youngest grandchildren, the two little girls rewrote the book on being picky. According to my son, his wife's mother is very picky. Can it be inherited? I think I need to research this. Thank you for sharing.

LOL, I think that is a good plan to blame it on the mother-in-law. Barbara, thanks for reading. Terry.

I love a mushroom and onion omelette, but there are foods I cannot eat based solely on the way it looks. My sister in law won't eat tomato's because of the look of the seeds.

Linda, thank you for reading, my wife didn't like tomatoes either, she said they were squishy. Terry.

Terry, this is a delightful and funny story. I do not remember even having eggs or mushrooms when I was a kid, but now I love them. Our go-to food was Franco-American spaghetti in a can so I do not remember anyone turning up our noses to any special dish.
For me, it is lobster, I did not have it until I was in my mid-thirties and thought it is too rubbery and maybe it was that the party I was attending it not go well.
It is funny where an adversion to a food can come from.
Best wishes,
Mary

I eat EVERYTHING. I mean that, no matter what you serve me, I'll try it. Even animal brains. I love food!

And I love eggs - boiled, fried, steamed . . . Even my cats love eggs; if I have them over easy for breakfast, they sit at my feet in anticipation of a little yolk left on the plate that they can lap up!

I have to admit, I have never heard the term "parent tapes" before. And I don't cook anything like my mother used to.

If someone made you a perfect mushroom omelet, you'd be cured of this egg aversion for the rest of your life:-)

As far as this post goes, who doesn't like reading about and talking about food? No one that I know of!

This is an excellent and interesting story to which many readers will relate. I enjoyed reading it. Your presentation is very good, too. You also use descriptive words and colorful imagery that draw in a reader. Your writing is good for thought. :)

Best wishes!

Hello Terry,
I can understand perfectly the argument against mushrooms. You didn't mention, however, that they taste like dirt, and they squeek when you chew them. Also, you have to assume that whoever picked them knew what they were picking. Lots of mushrooms look edible, but they're poisonous. I lived in community for ten years(hard to believe it was that long) and we had to eat rutabagas. Or I did once at least. That was one time too many. In all honesty, I ate radish pudding, bear liver mush, and salmon pea wiggle while I was on that farm. Needless to say, I spent much of my time there hungry. Well done my friend.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Tom, thank you for the six stars! I have no idea how mushrooms taste, I have never tried them. Dang, you make all of those sound so gross! I'll never try a one! Terry

    Hey Terry,
I only tried them accidentally (mushrooms that is) The other stuff were things that were served to us on the farm. How I survived that ordeal is a wonder indeed.

Oh, Terry, are there really people like that? Usually if there's an adversioon to something, there's a reason for it. I personally love eggs. I eat them several times a week. Since I have a myriad of good allergies and intolerances, 70 total, I have about 20 things I can eat. That's not a lot and I have learned to be very creative. Thank you for sharing. No judgement here, my friend.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal :)) XOs

A most entertaining piece. Your writing is lively and enjoyably easy to read. I like the way you are disarmingly self-deprecating. And much of what you say is true. Coincidentally, I will not eat boiled ham, because when I was a child I had a headache after eating some. And I have always believed that boiled ham gives one headaches. Obviously!

I understand why they used split pea soup as barf in the Exorcist. Eggs and mushrooms are adorable compared to that. I also remember the AH film with the poison mushrooms. Who can believe we both remember such a relatively ancient movie plot?

Terry, that is some story. I don't know what in the world smelled bad or funny about a fried egg, unless someone had rancid grease, or a bad egg.
Although I don't understand your not eating a simple thing like an egg, I have never tasted, nor do I plan to taste caviar, or calves' brains. Also, though I used to eat snails, I won't again - just the thought makes me wonder how I ever did. OH! and raw oysters! nope!
So, your aversion to eggs may seem strange to me, but then mine may seem strange to you. Happy freedom of choice!
