Avoiding eye contact indicates she is hiding something from Seth.

"into my chest" should that be into his chest?

The dynamics from the her being adopted bombshell have changed things.

Speaking from experience, they should have told her she was adopted a long time ago. In reality, now she will probably look at them in a different light and have a hard time believing anything they say ever again. Her feelings for them may be destroyed as well. In some cases, this kind of damage can be repaired with time, therapy, and a few other matters, but not often.

Oh my gosh, they're a lot in this chapter. Things I never saw coming! The attack at Emma's home came from out of nowhere, but it was understandable, but the revelation by Peggy just blew me away.

You leave us with Seth in the hospital, Emma devastated but willing to forgive her parents, and her home closed off as a crime scene. She's going to her parent's house and the dogs with her.

Good shot by Emma!

Great job, my friend!
Take care,
Rhonda

Wow! This is quite the chapter - has an almost rape, gun shooting, emotional outbursts, and even Keith is shaking his head. Hope that's the last of Peggy Barton and the assailant!
Sounds like there will be a resolution for Emma and Seth and an acceptance of their relationship.

Great chapter! Easy sixer all day long.

Minor suggestion.

Emma stood and crept to Keith and Susan.
(Crept didn't feel
right to me as it is associated with snuck).

Just my two cents.

Great action sequence and follow-up. I enjoyed this chapter the most so far, but I am an action junky.

That Barton woman is a real ass by the way.

I wondered about crept. I wanted her to move slowly and searched for a strong verb. I will keep searching. I thought of your descriptions as I wrote this. There has to be one. More information will be coming on the outcome. Thank you for the encouragement.

Hello Barbara,
this was an action packed chapter. Not at all what I was expecting. Well done on letting it unfold in such a dramatic manner. I enjoyed this chapter I think better than any of the previous ones.
Have a blessed evening.

This chapter was very emotional, and you pulled it off perfectly. Emma learned a secret in the worst way possible. But the fact that Peggy was the one who told her is not unexpected as she is a really bad person. Jake has really stepped up to help when Seth can't. You have made sure everyone around Emma is a good person in their own way, except Peggy.

Ok, so I jumped in fairly late in this adventure. Obviously, Emma is truly sought after, and the drama is constant. Not sure who the stalker is or what he's after, but damn! A lot seems to have been revealed in this chapter. I'm out of six stars or you'd had them from me.
Thank you for sharing.
God bless,
Steve

This is an excellent chapter from start to finish. Emotions ran high in different situations. It had to be hard for Emma to see Seth's bulletproof vest. It didn't help that Peggy Barton threw herself at Seth. She probably doesn't know what to think about why this woman does what she does. In the meantime Carl is speaking to Seth about Emma.

Then things drastically change, one that was unexpected, but unfortunately that is how the minds of criminals work. You wrote it well without giving sordid details, but what you did write still made a big impact of what criminals are capable of. You allow the reader to process it themselves. Emma certainly knew how to use the gun and how to react.

She has a lot of courage under pressure and saved Seth's life and probably her own. Jake was like a big brother helping Emma out and also had to get her story.

The scene at the hospital with Peggy Barton was unconscionable and uncalled for. She is a very bitter woman, and has shattered Emma's world. You did a great job with the talk between Jake and Emma. I like how you ended the chapter with Pastor Pat taking the long way to the Winters' home so Emma had time to gather her thoughts, and it worked. Great job with this one!!

So the secret about Emma is out .But should not make any difference .She was much loved by everyone. Was the assailant the same person as the one with car? I amwaiting for the next .
Emma would do a lot of introspection...

Emma has a lot to deal with in this chapter--getting attacked, getting saved, shooting someone, having someone she loves shot, finding out she is adopted. Excellent descriptions put us in the scene and let us feel Emma's emotions.
